Great great project! I have been dreaming of undertaking such a project myself for quite a while. I got inspired in the first place by some website's which showed the progress on fiberglass/tube frame cars with MR2 drivetrain. But this reallly is something on an entirely new level, turbocharged BMW V12 with a Porsche gearbox, brilliant!!! How much horsepower does it approximately produce 400 or closer to 500?

I am really interested in the technique behind this project it really is great. Hmmm, let's see how much cash I still have to spare ? hmm, engine out of a battered 7 series shouldn't cost that much I think but a GT3 gearbox will be a problem to get within my budget . Ah well at least I don't have to hire a designer can do that myself!

Hi

The chassis is made entirelly from tube and the roll cage is made from T45 which is twice the strength of std steel and not normally used in this kind of projetc as its a bit overkill.... I bought it for a different purpose but that didn't stop me using it.

These engines respond well to turbocharging as they run 8.8:1 cr as std and just slapping turbos onto the std engine produces between 500 and 600ftlb at the wheels..... I am aiming for higher revs and a few head tweeks but power is guess work at the moment.

I am using twin alloy rads one each side of the car and they are fairly large (500mm square), there will be an upgraded RX7 alloy intercooler each side of the car as well.

I do like the example rear ends people are posting up.... I,m not yet sure the rear is right yet and it definatelly needs refinement.

Cheers
Andy

Its a fabricated Intercooler that was designed to be able to fit into an RX7, I'm not sure what mods an RX7 needed to make it fit (if any) as it is quite large.
They just happend to match the dimensions I wanted.

Fantastic mate - but could i make one suggestion??

IMO those wheels are horrific and the car would really suit or benefit from a decent set of non chrome lightweight alloys.

Apart from that, looks superb!!!!!

I agree. BBS LM's would look amazing on this car.

I wish I had the brains + time to do a project like this, its awe inspiring. Keep up the great work!

Wheels are Kahn RS-C split rims and are lightweight alloys.... must be the pic that makes them look chrome plated as the are not and only the rim is polished.

These are in fact one of my favourite rims.

this is a very impressive project

but please tell me your doing some wind tunnel work on the body before you finalise it.
Its all very well making something that is astheitcally pleasing, but it if has the
drag co-efficient of a church then its going to spoil the whole project

There is plenty of inspiration in there and the Porsche GT is pretty much my ideal car as a package.... in fact the cars that I take inspiration from are Porsche GT, Keonigsegg, Mclaren F1, Enzo and the Zonda.
I am trying to keep the design unique though which is harder than I originally thought.

Regarding wind tunnel testing, its very unlikelly as its a one off at the moment and I can't justify that... cd will not be a problem and the downforce should be fine... its the airflow through the engine bay that needs to be planned and this is what is driving my design for the rear end. function first, form following.
I have an airodynamasist coming round in a few weeks to provide advice before the rear is finalised.

Without doubt the body is the hardest part of the cars design IMO.

Absolutely hefty amounts of work you've put in there. Hope it all comes together nicely.

Would suggest a different set of wheels, but if you love your's fair enough. Jus seen too many of them on blinged up golfs and Audi's.

Here's a quick 5 min photochop

Top work tho and i can't wait to see what it sounds like.

Looks very nice, I wish I had the skills to do what you've done, I have to disagree with most people, I like the wheels. Here's my slightly rubbish take on what the rear could look like...

And one that I did with chrome surrounding the clusters, but then I realised it looked a bit like Lexus-lights, so stopped...

Well I guess the wheels are definatelly a personnel preference (I don't like the ones above, too 80's for me), these kahn ones are designed for Porsche and Ferrari aftermarket fitments.
maybe its the pics I have done.

www.kahndesign.com/index2.html

You also need to bear in mind that these are 19inch wheels and need to be capable of fitting the 345 tyres I have on the rear.

The rear is definatelly not staying exactly as the original PSP pics.... I love Davi's version although I am not sure I could incorporate the lights in that recess, but the grill looks spot on. I will definatelly be mocking up a grill like that as well as the versions I have to see what looks best.
I am a 3D visual man and am mocking up the rear at the moment so that I can physically play with the design.

Andy, what are you working in to sculpt the body? If you are thinking the recess of the lights might be a bit tricky to fashion I have a very simple way of doing it - if you just aren't that keen on recessing the lights then no worries, the first version I did of it didn't have the recess running round the lights, I just got carried away

ETA - something I've been meaning to ask you.... on full drop of the suspension, how close do the lower halfs of the tyres come to hitting the bottom inner edge of the wheelarch? I originally wanted to do full-round sculpting on mine but was worried that the wheels could hit the lower edge, so basically just went pretty much straight down from half wheel height to the sills.
