Well, we had both the E36 and the 964T up at Oulton a few weeks back, and it looks like we'll be keeping the Porsche for a while. It's great on the track but it's going to take a while to learn how to drive it properly eek

That means, sadly it's time to get rid of Project E36 frown Hopefully when I get around to putting an ad up, it will go to a fellow PH'er so that I can read about it's continuing exploits smile

You going to split any of it? or sell the lot in one go? Just out of intrest, what sort of price would you sell it for? i.e you think you will be anywhere near breaking even on what you put into it?

Definitely not going to break it for parts, it'd be too much hassle. I'd sell the Alpina engine separately though, if a prospective purchaser of the car didn't want it. We wont get back what we've put in to it; You rarely do with modded/track cars.

Price wise, I need to see what else is out there. There are plenty of E36 track cars, but I don't think many have the suspension, brakes, cage and lightweight panels that ours has. Maybe £6K with the Alpina engine, but I'd be interested to hear what everyone thinks whilst I get an ad together.

The parts we haven't fitted include the Alpina lump, M3 sump, M3 oil filter housing (with take off for oil cooler), and a full set of Powerflex poly-bushes. There's two sets of racing dynamics rims, one set with slicks and the other with wets.

Shame for it to go after so much effort has been put in, but I have enjoyed reading this thread.

Can I ask how you did the vinyl check effect over the back, as its somthing I'm considering doing on mine.

We just covered the whole rear in vinyl, marked out the pattern, and then cut it out with a sharp scalpel. Some parts took a fair bit of working out, and the trickier bits were done with a paper stencil first.

Have you removed anything to stop the car being returned to a road car

The only thing I can think of is the passenger side windscreen wiper. It would obviously need a set of road legal tyres too. Certain MOT testers could get funny about the windscreen sun-strip and twist buckle harnesses, but I've had no trouble getting my similar specced E36 through an MOT.

As rich says, so far as I know it would need a wiper putting on (mechanism is all still there), a set of tyres and maybe the sun strip removing. Maybe a heated front screen or small fan as a demister too?

The V5 is all present and correct, and the car is currently SORN. I've thought about getting an MOT many times, just to make things easier when moving the car about and testing.

I think the E36 is one of the most adaptable cars out there right now and prices are cheap enough for to enter this.....

....in the PPC £999 Challenge.

Would be nice to have a bigger budget but it's all fun. wink

The MOT doesn't require any form of screen demisting. Mine has passed the last 2 MOT's since the heater was removed. I'm not sure you could even refit the standard heater box in yours Ben as the roll cage dash bar would probably be in the way.

Heated screens are easily available though:

Unless the bulkhead has been sealed, Id try to fit an element and a simple blower. The weight is neglibable and whatever advantage you lose will be regained 1000x if you can clear your screen on a wet day...

WOW - just went through all 19 pages of this - Boss is away smile

To be fair i only really read your posts Benni - Great write up although whilst on page 5/6 i was looking forward to getting to page 19 and reading about that elusive m3 engine you mentioned fitting 1 or 2 time hehe Shame you didnt get round to doing it.

What are your plans once you sell Project E36 then, Go Go Project Porsche?

Again, i loved reading this thread, this is what PH is all about!

Well Done

Cheers Dave. Complete change of plan biggrin

Just sold the Porsche and we're keeping the BMW. It's going to be getting the Alpina engine fitted in the next few weeks, going on a bit more of a diet, and then it'll be back on track smile

Can't believe you sold the Porsche, that was possibly one of my favourite cars on here, it looked just right! I hope you made a nice profit on it?

Can't believe it myself frown

I'm selling for combination of reasons really. Me and a mate want to go racing, and it's either in the Porsche or the E36.....and the 964 is way to nice (and expensive) to race. The other reason is that I had a baby not too long ago.....well my wife did, but I helped. I can't use it for a weekend drive with the family, so it invariably gets left in the garage, which is a crying shame.

Currently on the lookout for a nice E30 M3 smile
