BMW E30 M3 - S85 DCT [RNGTOY]
Discussion
This project is finally moving forward after a long pause.
The plan is that the metal fabricator will take the car next week and do the following:
- make brackets for motor mounts
- make a custom bracket for gearbox mounts
- make changes to Mishimoto radiator inputs/outputs
- add bracket for second ear on diff cover
- fabricate exhaust
Just got a delivery from Summit Racing, two of those:
Plan is to be able to have a LOUD exhaust on demand
I´m using coated stock S85 headers, dual stainless 2.5" pipes into a "H" section, then the cut out valves just before the Bastuck muffler I have. It´s got dual 2.5" inlets and dual 76mm tips, hope it will polish up nicely.
V10 at 8000+ rpm bypassing the muffler will be something else
Once this stuff is sorted I´ll have the shell blasted.

Decided to splurge on some Supersprint hardware:
These are originally made for E46 M3, 2 x 2.5" - will incorporate into a custom exhaust. Old exhaust sold and will go into the car the S50 engine went into
The preferred setup is:
headers -> x pipe -> cutout valves -> mid box -> rear box
But due to space restraints the cutout valves might have to go between the mid and rear boxes. I want to have both the possibility to have crazy loud V10 and then a track day compliant setup also
But I have plenty time to figure that out, delivery is in week 11

Slowly progressing
To be sure I´m compliant with German regulations I got some cats for the exhaust system:
These are 200 cpsi.
Fabricator will start working on the exhaust in approx. 2 weeks. After that is complete, the car will be stripped down to bare shell and bottom/firewall media blasted.
Also sourced an electric PS pump, the one from the A-class Merc - the dry sump system takes the place where the PS pump was:

Some more progress. Cooling system more or less done. Ended up moving radiator in front of the front clip and we modified a radiator so it´s got 2 seperate parts, upper/lower as the oem S85 system has. That way we can use the oem hoses/clips on the engine side. Then put a big electric fan behind the rad:
Then fitting the intakes, using the Eventuri ones:
So now the fab work is pretty much done it´s time to strip the car and blast the shell & fix some rust.

Projects such as this always take time, as you are are effectively doing R&D to get things right.
Do you have a plan for controlling the DCT, various companies are claiming that they offer DCT conversions however no working example has been shown to the public...
Plan has been to use the OEM ECU with custom programming.Do you have a plan for controlling the DCT, various companies are claiming that they offer DCT conversions however no working example has been shown to the public...
However..... as you mention there are companies now offering open DCT solutions. The one I am following closely is the one from MAXXECU. They are also coming out with a PDM system. Tempting to take out the old electrical system and have a modern one.
