was the timing excessively retarded?
Don´t know - will have to ask the mapper about it.
What do the exhaust valves look like? Excessively retarded timing essentially puts alot of heat onto the exhaust side of the combustion chamber, cooking the piston and exhaust valves.
I haven´t got any pics of the valves yet.

Get a new mapper this time;)
No.

If he is good enough for McLaren F1, Gpower/Infinitas & many other top level companies,
he is good enough for mewink

What I will however have to do is speak with the guy who sold me the engine
and said it had been built to handle FI which is not the case at all.

Awesome build!

Looks like a perfect ring tool.

How do you like the racelogic TC system?
The Racelogic is a nice tool when learning a new track or driving in
the wet. I however do not use it in the dry any more.

Just got back from the Ring.

The car is now running after the engine rebuild. Did 16 laps without
problems - here is one of them:
http://www.rngtoy.com/thordur/almennt/Eurotour2008...

I am not pushing the car 100% yet but still did 8:24 BTG even though
there was some construction work.

The car is working well, and I´m increasing the load on the engine
gradually while monitoring it closely. A/F is 11.9X at wot, water temp
never goes above 3/4ths, oil temp goes to 115°c.

So far everything looks good - fingers crossed.

I am not sure about the power level - still need to take it to a dyno.

I did however see a 997 GT2 enter the track before me and I decided to
see how the M3 would do against it

I was on his tail through Hatzenbach and then we floored it through Flugplatz
and were break even.

He let me through at Foxhole because it was getting very wet. Later in the
lap it dried up again and we started playing again. I couild not shake him
off but he could not overtake me either.

Here is a video from this lap:

Taking a GT2... Very good !
The car feels really good now.

I would not say I took the GT2 - we were even.

Here is a pic from my last trip:

... and some more videos smile

First there is a 8:25 lap, reving some more than in the lap I already posted,
lots of traffic (pcars in the way biggrin ) and construction again:
http://www.rngtoy.com/thordur/almennt/Eurotour2008...

Second one is where I´m minding my own business - warming up the car when some
E190's & a Lotus blast by.... then I just realized the car was up to temp and some
serious suprising was in order biggrin
http://www.rngtoy.com/thordur/almennt/Eurotour2008...

The third is when I am on the tail of a new E92 M3 driven by some japanese
guys (a lot of those that weekend!):
http://www.rngtoy.com/thordur/almennt/Eurotour2008...

Finally a clip in torrential rain - 500hp, rwd and semislicks eek

PS. Heel'n toe not yet perfected..... whistle

Prior to this trip I had only done 11.5 laps this year and none of them at full power so
my driving is a bit rusty

Hope to put in some more laps soon & get it more smooth.

Here is the video of my first sub 8 minute lap last weekend at the Ring:

http://www.rngtoy.com/thordur/almennt/Eurotour2008...

As you can see this lap was rather slow to begin with - had
just finished a 11:47 and 8:34 warmup laps after showing up
at the Ring entrance 8:15 Sunday morning biggrin
After Hatzenbach I started to drive faster since I realized that
with this little traffic it could be a fast lap.

Cool Vid (as normal)

How is the car running ?
The car is running very nicely. Had a minor problem with boostleak on the first
day of the trip. Turned out to be the hose from supercharger to the watercooled
intake had become loose (hoseclamp slid off). After that all was well smile

mate, you are totally barking mad and i absolutely love your project. how much did you spend on your little runner so far? must have cost you quite a bit. seemed to have paid off, tho. i just watched your lap at the 'ring and as far as i could tell you haven't even been overtaken once. keep up the good work.
Haven´t added the invoices up - not going to smile

I do get overtaken at the Ring, there is some serious
machinery there driven by very capable people wink

Hi s62, very enjoyable read, i am near completion of a s50b32 swap into my e30, i'm about ready to get the diff sorted out, are you running the M3 3.25 ratio dff and lsd or or have you gone for a higher ratio of say 3.64 or 3.91 with lsd, I'm ready to get mine race preped so i said i'd get your opinion, as i'm going to the ring in July hopefully!!!!
Thanks again for the top write up and pis's
I have the original E30 M3 3.25 diff. Don´t think I would like
a higher ratio - the back straight is long smile

Cheers s62,
One other thing I noticed in your post is your suspension, are they H+R Coilovers on the front with H+R non adjustable springs or springs with adjustable spring perches on the rear with what shock.
I'm fitting the same mov'it setup as yourself how do the Mov'it discs and pads hold up on the ring since you got the replacement disc's, should I bring a spare set of pads to the ring with me or does the brake cooling work as Mov'it says it should??

Thanks
Regarding the coilovers they were custom ordered by Tauber and I do not remember
the exact type but I believe it´s the H&R "Nurburgring" setup. They will most likely
be happy to tell you the exact type - try contacting them www.auto-tauber.de,
they speak english smile

The Movit brakes hold up well but then again I am not too hard on the brakes.
It is always a good idea to have a spare set of pads though. To get more life out
of the disks it´s a good idea to go out for a cooldown drive after lapping the Ring.
I´m more aware of this after the premature disk cracking.
