Here is the result of some of Sundays labours. The roll cage padding is the proper FIA spec stuff and is fixed using concealed tywraps. We like the finished result. The two small triangular openings in the top of the cage will be receiving carbon infill panels.
It's getting so close now, I can smell it! Really should lay off the radishes.

Geoff & Eldon.

I dont have any rollcage experience at all so forgive me if this is a silly question but is that all the padding is held on by? or am i missing something? I assume they are 'proper' tie wraps but still, doesnt seem much.

I dont mean to offend, just curious!

P.S the car looks fab! :-)

Hi there. The padding has an adhesive lining but it didn't seem up to the job on its own, hence the tywraps.
I'll take some pics outside tomorrow, weather permitting.
Geoff.

Not sure if this is any good to you, but you can buy stainless steel and stainless steel PVC covered cable ties as used in food factories etc. This would give you the tensile strength and the colour choice smile

Fantastic build. Awesome attention to detail. Really enjoying the progress thumbup

Hi Geoff,

Love the car. Looks fantastic. Can I be a bit cheeky and ask for apicture of the gear linkage at the GB end? My friend's doing a project at uni and I want to show him this smile.

Thanks, Mark

Hi again. As requested above, a pic of the gearbox end of the gearchange cable. The bracket is Titanium, for no other reason than we have it lying around!
Also featured are the carbon infills to the roll cage. Totally frivolous, we know.
We are canvassing local airfields for a short shakedown session soon, to find out if everything works prior to booking a trackday. Any suggestions?? Nottingham area?? Or any expanse of tarmac or private road?
We don't want to find out on an expensive trackday that we have clutch or gearbox problems, or horrendous brake balance, or high load misfire, or..... you get the idea.

The fabrication is a work of art. Very impressive. Makes me wish I had the skills to do something like this.

A bit of a trek down the A38, but what about Curborough? I think via the MMC they allow access/hire or maybe (still?) do Wednesday sessions. Could be out of date but just an idea . . Great car by the way!

Hi everyone. After a few hiccups the brakes are bled and with the wheels back on we decided to take advantage of the sunshine this afternoon and wheel the Phoenix outside.
The bodywork is poo (we know) but might be replaced if funds allow in the future. At least the way it is we aren't too worried about scratching it, or worse!
Next on the agenda is a basic set up, alignment etc..
The titanium exhaust is colouring up nicely, don't you think?

Hi Jimbo. No brake pipes in the pic. The tubes seen behind the exhaust go to the header tank.

Apologies Geoff/Eldon (not sure which one you are! biglaugh)

Meant this pic:

Just wondering, as cupro-nickel brake pipe would allow you to get rid of those coils, I think. (ignore me if you're already using it!)
