Small update time.

I decided I wanted to move some of the gauges and add a new one that I had kicking around. I have been using a VW stereo blank and thought I would modify that rather than buy a new gauge holder as i liked the little VW logo on it and thought it would look more like a factory option rather than an aftermarket addition.

So drilled two 52mm holes ready to take the oil pressure and oil temp gauges.

As I had moved one of the gauges up from the lower panel I had fabricated previously I was left with a hole, so I fitted the engine kill switch I had got of ebay a few months ago as it fitted perfectly and works well next to the volt gauge!

Now just need to finish wiring everything in. Started stock piling some bits ready to do the front end suspension/bush replacement. New OEM top mounts, lower strut brace, poly wishbone bushes to order, second rose joint drop link to fit.

Good god you do realise there are likely to be some scene queens crying now because you ruined the "ultra rare" stereo blank ;-)

I reckon it looks good, were you not tempted to try a Audi 3x gauge holder though as these are usually more readily available an are angled toward the driver.

The stereo blanks aren't rare! I got mine from TPS for £4! I did look at other gauge mounting options but had that already, the idea popped into my head and the hole saw came out!

Haha sorry perhaps my sarcasm wasn't too good.

I know you can get them quite easily but recently saw one advertised for £40 + P&P, if you have a look on mk2 forums some people pay silly money for them in order to please the base spec OEM gods

To keep the thread alive and as the weather is bad today time for a little boring update!

Done a couple of small jobs like changing the power steering fluid with some proper VW stuff. I also dropped the lower brace at the powdercoaters to be done satin black and love the finish and should hopefully last longer than paint.

Also got round to wiring in the gauges, grabbed some wire/braid/heat shrink off a mate a set about running the wires.

With the gauges wired up and working including dimming with dash lights, I bought a set of new LED bulbs to finish them off.

Slowly working through the list of things I want to sort.

Polybush wishbones
New top mounts front - Bought and need to fit
New top mounts rear
New track rod ends
New Ball joints
Uprated antiroll bars
Rose jointed drop links
Uprated engine mounts
Larger 2.5” decat pipe
Brembo 4 pots
330/340mm front disks depending if I can get the Brembos to work on the current 312mm disks
Fit battery cut off switch - Fitted just needs wiring in
Fit extra gauges
Front lower brace
Change gearbox oil
Flush coolant and replace with new

Been doing a few bits to the car the last few weeks, started by changing the gear box oil which ment a had to knock up a way of filling it up as the bottles didn't have anyway of forcing the oil in. So one funnel and a length of hose later job done!

I gave the front bumper a fresh coat of paint.

Then it was time to sort out the larger decat pipe, I tried a few places locally but most wanted to much or wouldn't do it so I ordered one from then states which arrived in less than a week and is excellent quality and fits mm perfect!

All fitted with a genuine vw stainless sleeve form a TT and a flexible high temp sealant

Quick video after it was fitted and warmed up, will do a better one once it has bedded in a bit.

Then dropped the rear brace down to the powdercoaters to be done satin black, another top job done by them!

Next up I got the front wishbone poly bushes

Untitled by lukegodbold, on Flickr

I picked up a second hand set of wishbones and burnt out the old bushes and knocked the sleeves out

Untitled by lukegodbold, on Flickr

gave them a clean up and a coat of satin black paint

Untitled by lukegodbold, on Flickr

Onced dried I fitted the poly bushes and new ball joints to the wishbones.

Next on the list was a set of eibach anti roll bars

Got the rear fitted yesterday afternoon.

Car is now taxed and back on the road and should be doing a Rolling Road day in a few weeks so will see what difference the new decat has made if any. Also going to get the front antiroll bar and wishbones fitted by my garage along with a 4 wheel alinement which will hopefully be done next week.
