Yup, came 2nd at Goodwood.

Next one is this saturday, 9th, at Lydden. They've changed the format so its 2.75 laps from a standing start, not the usual 1.75, so should be fun.

No, you start from the pits, just at the track entrance. The finish is just before the hairpin, at the top of the hill just before you'd turn in.

I've just read what you put again and I think you mean the same place!

That is a stunning car! cool

There are, sadly, a lot of tatty ones around now.

Mine was quite a tidy one, and I miss it a lot!

I wonder why I sold it sometimes! frown

I'm not sure if I can make it then, I'll have to see when I've got to leave to see Status Quo as to whether I can turn up or not.

Another Win thumbup

Just being detailed at KDS in Gillingham. Looks amazing from the pics. Picking it up tomorrow.

Then off to the Brighton & Hove Motor Club Concours and Classic Car Show on Sunday at Stanmer Park to duke it out with the others in the Competition Car section.

Just a quick one to say that i comfortably won my class in the Tunbridge Wells All Circuit Sprint Championship this year, and came 2nd in the entire championship, which was a suprise. A picture of the Rex at Lydden made it onto the front of the newsletter that goes out to all involved, whch was nice.

The car also did Brighton Speed Trials (quarter mile in 12.6 seconds dead) and I managed a 12.41 at Santa Pod a month later.

I must also fix the links to the pictures in the first post; i have moved web host so all the pics linked for the last ten years of being 'on the web' no longer exist frown

Pictures fixed smile

Its the start of the year so as i do every year I will give it a big service (oil, filters, gearbox oil, diff oil, check brakes, etc) and while we are underneath we'll be checking out how its all looking under there.

This years' big project is to try and lose some of the transmission shunt; its not as tight as it once was and I would imagine its on its original engine mounts. So we have poly engine mounts and diff mounts going in, and also a new power-plant frame which will be braced extensively before fitting, then shot-blasted and powder-coated. While thats happening, all the front and rear suspension is coming out and the front and rear subframes will also be powder-coated and re-fitted.

Nothing like a spring clean is there? smile

Not sure what the plan is this year for it. A little bored of sprinting, especially Lydden, so i think some trackdays this year. I did only a few last year as I wanted the car to be ready for racing at least once a month if not more so I saved it a little. I'll probably sprint at Goodwood a few times as its a gerat circuit, but I'd liek to get to Cadwell and Outlon this year as I've never been.

The 'ring is a vague plan as well.....i think this car has a sub-8 in it. But do i?

Well, she's finally popped.

After 4 years and 15,000 miles of making over 400 horse on standard internals, numerous trackdays, a european trip, two Fighting Torques, various meets, a day at The 'Pod, Brighton Speed Trials twice, many sprints and lots of trophies for the mantelpiece it threw a tip on the road the other day.

So what now? Well, the decision has already been made. After four years and all those events, I was running out of things to do with it. I was starting to look at other cars. But i didn't want to get rid of it as its such an amazing car. The engine failure has come at a good time, in a way, as it has made me make decisions I have been thinking about for a while anyway.

The answer is clear. Make it into a different car. I've done 'stripped-out track monster' and I am tired of it. Each of the things I have done have made it more track-focused and less usable. On a sunny day I don't think 'oh, I'll take the Rex' and I want to. I want a 'do-it-all' car that is also capable of destroying most things it meets on track.

So the interior is going back in, as are the stndard seats (though the buckets and harnesses will be easily re-fitted for trackdays and racing, and the cage will be trimmed around the interior). I'll be putting in a stereo and air-con. Oh, and a new engine, but not the same type. I've done 'small capacity and turbo'. Now I'm going the other way.

So Papercup's RX-7 Mk1 ends here, and Papercup's RX-7 Mk2 starts here
