Well it was fine when the engine was in a friends car - they are longer now than what they were so should be better. The engine makes power at 8.6k so the short inlet isn't a problem in that sense.

Anways - serious update tonight......it's alive! biggrin

Went over to Bob's to do a few more bits and pieces, fitted my new powder coated PAS bracket and battery tray, and Bob started it up again so I could hear it running. He had already got it running in the week but said he wanted to do that when I wasn't there as I worry too much! biggrin Well my word it sounds so crazy, I cannot wait to have a drive of it! Few minor issues, we're still waiting on an oil pressure sensor, and it's running super rich at the moment which I think is partly due to the bodies being out of balance slightly. Bob has a tool to sort this out which he should be able to do next week. He's also done my front brake lines leading to the calipers so it's really making progress now. Again a huge thanks to Bob for all his hard work so far, really pleased. One slight bogey is I seem to have a tiny bit of oil seepage from the Oil cooler sandwich plate so I suspect it's been over tightened - either way it's a tiny amount, so i'll sort that when I do the first oil change. Don't want to be wasting the current oil at over £60 a pop! rolleyes The plan is to get the exhaust made up next, then probably get the map tweaked so it's not so rich - I felt high as a kite after being in the garage with the engine running for ten minutes - my eyes were burning too! biggrin I got a couple of pics and 2 vids to whet the appetite - all I can say is it's going to be naughty once it's driveable! I had another video of it really revving up but my camera ran out of memory halfway through so it lost the info..never mind. Got some slightly better photo's of the wiring job too. We also need some more hose retainers to tidy the lines to the catch tank but we're on the case with that too...all in all i'm dead pleased/excited!

Few more updates today - spent most of the day driving all over the place to collect stuff i'd bought. Firstly my STACK dash (from a genuine 106 Maxi works car, hence the pug logo) which I had to collect from a couriers depot over an hours drive away...then to collect my new rear caliper that I won on ebay for 85 quid - they are just shy of 300 new so bargain!! Then nipped over to Bob's to drop off said items, then back home to modify my crank sensor I bought on ebay - purely to cover the exposed area in the gearbox. So I knocked out the sensor and made a little carbon cover for it - looks mint and will be functional too - sweet! Also wire wooled the brake caliper carrier from the old caliper and painted it black. Should be heading over to Bob's again tomorrow to get these bits fitted. ALso waiting on some info from STACK so we can wire in the dash - tedious customer service from them I tell ya...
Bob sent me a pic of it powered up tonight and I so hope we can get it working as it's mint!

Pics:

Stack in my van anyone?! biggrin

New Brake Caliper (Rear - genuine pug/cit):

It's getting there slowly - more updates soon!

Cheers Ed.

You want teflon lined hoses dude.

Update - had clutch problems, realised we had the wrong release bearing in for the AP clutch so the Gearbox had to come off the car, Bob did a lot of messing around to sort it out...to cut a long story short we're getting a proper release bearing made up by a place in Silverstone so hopefully it'll work come the weekend! Total pain in the arse and more money on my bill, but what can you do - facking cars! biggrin

Here were my updates prior to the clutch crisis! tongue out

Area of gearbox that required covering:

Cover fitted (Modded crank sensor):

Caliper fitted:

Rallye during 'surgery':

New black Quaife type gearknob (Quaife don't do a black one so this is a copy - just as good though!) Everyone is getting white so I wanted a change:

Thats about it for now - hopefully we'll have some good fortune/progress come the weekend.

Lol that sounds nuts! I need to change my name to ''Track_Pug'' too now....never mind!

Anyway more updates.....not long now! Should be home on sunday *rubs hands together* May nip over to Bob's on thursday night too so I can give it a quick test drive...probably won't be able to drive it I bet! biggrin

I rang Bob again this evening - it's got new spark plugs now (old one's were quite fouled up) - gawd knows why Longmans didn't change them the cheap s, especially as my bill was over £1200! Bodies are now all balanced properly, she starts up lovely and idles nice, goes well too. Apparently the gearing is majorly short though so i'll have to see how I get on with it. That can be the next project! Bob is starting the dash wiring too tonight (STACK) so should be able to get some more decent pics on thursday eve. I'm excited now! You almost loose interest when you don't see it for ages, and have problems (like the clutch etc) but i'm starting to get stoked on it again now! biggrin

God a lot - the previous owner spent over 15k getting it to how it looks now (minus engine, box, seat, and brakes). I bought it off him for 5k without the parts listed, and fitted my own. So a good deal for me in that sense. The engine was a fair chunk too as you'd anticipate, but there won't be much to beat it in terms of performance once it's ready. All it needs is a weld in cage and better suspension to be a serious weapon. I will have to learn to drive it properly too....! To me it's worth more than money in terms of value (emotionally too ha!) and would never consider selling it unless someone gave me a crazy offer. I love it too much and I haven't even driven it yet - can't wait.

It's had a LOT of work - it started like this:

Right I have forgotten to update this recently! The car went to have the engine wired in by Bob at wire Wizards - initally this was due to take a week or so! Basically we've had loads of nightmare problems getting this sorted though. Bob did the wiring in a couple of days and then we discovered loads of problems!! Typical! Gearbox had to come off (and go back on) about 4 times to get the release bearing sorted to fit the AP race clutch, (The guy I bought it off - when we fitted the engine we fitted a standard release bearing in error - DOH! Then my sump had a crack so that had to come off to be re-welded and pressure tested. My stack dash had old software on it so had to go back to stack for reconifuration. It's cost me a lot more than planned but that's how it is with cars eh>>! Should be done soon anyway I can't wait!

So recent updates are as follows:

Right it's been a little while! Car is getting there now. It was due to be delivered back this weekend but i've decided to get Bob to sort the rear loom as well while it's there. That's the wiring 100% complete then!

I also had my new Faulkner Springs fitted - 200Lb 6" Mains and 4" 40Lb helpers (using a spring platform between the two also). It still sits slightly high but it may settle, and the wheels are wider than normal so if it's too low it may catch the arch. I need to get some adjustable top mounts so I can get some camber on it! Bob sent me some pics anyway.

Here is how it sat before (it was really high up front!)

And here is how it sits now:

So as you can see - it's not heaps lower but it will do for now I think! May just raise the back a touch so it's dead level, as the roads are pretty terrible around here anyway. The only way to go lower would be to get some 2" 60Lb helper springs (these have less coils too).

We'll see anyway.

It's a job for another day!

Right, a little update with a bit of good and a BIG bit of bad news....

The good news is Bob will be delivering the car back to me on Sunday with the rear loom all sorted etc, and he had it detailed for me too which was really cool of him. The BAD news is I just found out I lost my job. I have been in Copenhagen with my girlfriend for the past three days, and when I got home I received a call (actually they phoned my Dad to pass the message on which was nice of them) to say I no longer have a job, so I am currently trying to sort things out and find a new job! The Rallye will be ok for now, it's going to my parents and staying there in the garage for the while, but it obviously won't see the road yet as it still needs an exhaust. That's the only thing left to do to get it running! So sad times, but hopefully if I get a new job sorted soon I will be able to crack on as normal and still get it ready in time for this season. Onwards and upwards eh?

Thanks dude - hopefully something will come up soon! My chick isn't from Copenhagen we were just there on hols for a few days - i liked it though but damn expensive for beer!! biggrin

Few update today, Bob sent me a picture of more amazing work on the rear loom. Car is due back tomorrow so I will put up loads of photo's then with all the new stuff fitted - i'm excited, if a little overcast by the thought of my job situation but ho hum...

Anyway here's the old pic of the snake that was there before (no offence Hank as you did better than I could've done with it!):

Bob stripped out all this:

And this is what's left to go in:

That's all for now - i'll put up tons of pics when she's home tomorrow - god I can't wait! biggrin

Thanks dude!

Right, big update tonight - she came today!!! I am over the moon with it, really looks the business in the flesh. I'm happy with the ride height too it's actually spot on so that's a bonus too. The wiring is amazing and the STACK dash is great, not only does it look sexual but it has about a million different settings with which to monitor the engine. Really pleased I went with it now. So glad to have it back it really does make all the hassle worthwhile. It still doesn't have an exhaust but I started her up none the less and reversed it back to the garage area - all I can say is good god it's a savage machine and it will fly when I get to drive it! Feels super tight and precise. Clutch bite is awesome, and the brakes feel good too. And it revs like ANYTHING, really quick it's nuts! Here are the pics anyway. I applied a few of the graphics today but ran out of daylight to do them all (it was freezing too!). Also swapped a few of the big cable ties for smaller one's which look neater so in the pics if there's some missing it's due to that. Also took the pistonheads sticker off the the Rallye reg one's as I want it to look neutral and standard in terms of the graphics. Pics don't do it justice though it's stunning in the flesh - really happy with it. May need to remove the inner arches too as it rubs on lock now she's lower - must be those big tyres.

Here are the pics anyway:

STACK dash:

Applying the Rallye decals:

Before:

After:

During:

I know this one is a little high in the pic but I didn't stick it on yet - I had ponk send me a pic (cheers dude) so it sits on the line of the bodywork as it should now, just don't have a pic of that!

Interior Loom - the back set rail is too low to fit anything under it so we had to go over the top - still a lot more minimal and neat though, and all the wiring to the rear lights is all hidden now too, sweet:

Tidied up with some smaller cable ties:

Here's the carbon alarm sensor holder I made (this is when I drilled up and dinked the roof too - doh!) Need to sort that when I get a job again:

And some exterior shots:

My favourite pic - looks so mean!

Engine:

Fuel pressure sensor for the STACK:

And tucked up in bed - where it'll stay for a while until I get a job and some money to complete!

Thanks for looking! Woo it's home! biggrin

Thanks guys. Yea I know Bic - in fact my current engine is out of the Maxi in that vid, then I had it rebuilt by Longmans. So theoretically my Rallye will be as quick (maybe not quite though as it won't have the sequential box)!

No the video isn't sped up - the other traffic looks erratic just because the maxi is really jumpy in terms of it's handling so it seems frantic from the cabin view if that makes sense, and yes it was damn quick as I had a spin in it. Lightening quick it was! biggrin

Thanks again guys.

Otter - His suspension is the proper Pug Sport Maxi stuff (or it was, it's now been redone by Harry Hockley for latest build) so it was a lot of cash. I think in total the car owed him around 40-50k in it's previous guise (as seen in that video) but he's owned it since it from new for years, and has built it gradually. He is also a bit older and has a decent job so it all helps! To give you an idea of how much the original pug sport parts are, the intakes on my engine are genuine Maxi one's, and when Bic bought them from France a few years ago they were over 2k! Longmans built his engine first time round, then I bought it, had it rebuilt, and now Bic has a new engine (built by Longmans just before they closed for business) and it's a 2L Ex Touring Car engine pushing out 280Bhp, so will be crazy when he's finished the car! It all stacks up though when you see how much ex rally cars are, they are mega bucks and the cost of parts is the reason why I guess.

Anyway a few updates from yesterday. I was out trying to buy a van all day (for work etc and to get about as I have no transport since loosing my job) so I didn't get back until late and it was damp and getting dark and haggard, so you'll have to excuse the turd pics! I finished off the graphics though, and went about moving that little cable to the handbrake sensor up behind the dash as it won't work with the STACK anyways. Also have a few little jobs to do in the bay but didn't have time for that!

Here are the pics anyway - like I said, nil point for photography this time! biggrin

Interior (flash used as it was so dark so it looks awful!) I fitted a little cover to the steering wheel to tidy it up and make it look more OE:

Cheers Guys! smile

A few more updates tonight. Finished off the graphics, sorted that little air bubble out (it's now gone and looks mint), fitted my hose clamps on the hoses to the oil catch tank, whipped out the handbrake wiring as it wasn't needed anymore, and swapped some of the big ignorant cable ties in the bay for some smaller neater types (they look less noticeable too!)

Here's the snaps anyways.

Air Bubble in question (now removed):

Front Side graphics complete:

Handbrake Cabling removed:

Oil Catch Tank Hose Clamps complete (I am going to change them all to silver as they don't do them in a black finish and they don't do colours anymore either!) I think the silver one's look neat and non chavvy anyways:

Smaller Cable Ties:

Engine as a whole:

Hi, yes it has 21mm torsion bars (suited to the front springs) and a more narrow ARB - this is recommended by Colin Satchel, an expert with the geometry on these cars so I question it not! biggrin

thanks lads - she should go well once she's ready alright! biggrin

Few more updates today. Obviously I don't have lots of spare cash at the moment so i've been doing all the small jobs i've been meaning to do for a while. Mainly removing the rest of the unwanted/un-sightly studs and brackets in the engine bay. Especially the bonnet prop one - god knows why they fit these on a 106 as you have gas struts so it's not needed....still!

I also bolted my battery bracket in properly as I took it out to get it powder coated black, but it was so fiddly to bolt in again i've only just gotten aroun to doing it! Pleased with the results though so far - just needs a lick of paint on the strut top and the bay is almost done. I still have a few hose retainers to swap over, and I would like a black oil cooler instead but that's on the long finger now I have no dosh! frown

Here are some pics anyway:

Area masked off for stud grinding with the dremmel (SUCH a great tool):

Gone:

The 'obnoxious' bonnet prop bracket (looks so messy) - it was an arse to remove to in such a confined space:

Getting there:

Gone:

Then I noticed another one at the back annoying me!

I don't have a pic of it removed but it's gone now! I also touched up the areas I ground down too of course. I'll get some pics today.

Here's the battery holder - looks much nicer in black!

That's it for now.
