My Indigo Blue Throttle Bodied 106 Rallye
Discussion
Here are the photo's / updates from the jobs I have been doing.
New rad - bought and fitted
Brake fluid - bought and bled brakes (still a lot of air in there though I think so will need doing again - arrgh)
So, excellent service from 106 parts. Ordered the replacement rad and it arrived within 2 days:
Accessories:
Model details:
Then came the process of fitting the fan. All easy, just needed to be careful not to damage the pipes when refitting these pins:
Also they protruded a lot and you could catch your arm on them when reaching down by the manifold, so I cut them down further and rounded off the ends on the bench grinder - no more torn to shreds arms!
Fan fitted up nicely:
All back in (was right arse to get the bottom rad hose back on - a lot of sweating, swearing and grunting!)
Then it came to refitting the alloy angle piece back on top of it to finish it off. Wasn't that straightforward. I had to gently persuade the top front lip almost flat in order for it to sit properly, then bonded on with some black silicon adhesive like so:
Looks way better with this fitted:
Then replaced the broken exhaust clamp and cut the bolt down a but. This was another pain. Takes a mega amount of force of this section of pipe to clamp it properly and stop it moving so may need some further tweakage at a later date. However, for now I have just tightened it using the might of Thor and it's pretty solid:
In place:
Then brake bleeding:
The fluid:
Put some paper towels under each fitting to check for leaks and track down any. Hopefully there aren't as I am sick of damn brake lines now!
That's all for now.
Need to sort wiper motor then figure why my PAS isn't working. Then all that's needed is mapping and MOT!

This is a brilliant little car and a superb inspiration for many of us.
Being so deep into your project you can often feel like there's a mountain of things outstanding to be completed but your perseverance with this and in particular, your attention to detail are brilliant to see and make me really want to get all the niggly parts of my own project complete.
Thanks for posting, keep doing it and enjoy it! Looks a peach.

For me too. I was on the PGAC maybe ten years ago plus. Early 00's. Myself (Paulr) and a good mate Joe (Longun) went to most of the shows back then and pretty much constantly on the forum.
It's funny looking back on forums. I'd love to read a few of my old posts. Probably talking utter ste.
Christ, they will let anyone in this place :P I was banned from PGAC (the club AND forum) eventually after a good few years on there. Was even a regional leader and on the committee at one point. My user was MattB106 I think. It's funny looking back on forums. I'd love to read a few of my old posts. Probably talking utter ste.
Thanks for the kind words as usual lads.
Updates, I still have air in my lines so I just hope it doesn't turn out to a complete arse ache of a job. I bought more fluid which with a bit of luck will arrive before the weekend and can tackle it then. When I apply pedal pressure currently it still goes all the way down and I can hear it hissing in the bay which I am assuming is just trapped air. It shouldn't be any issue with the mechanical parts as they worked fine before. I am just so busy at the moment, get the keys to our new house later on too!
Anyway last nights job was sorting the wiper motor.
I had some issues which are detailed in this thread here: http://www.106rallyeforum.com/forum2008/showthread.php?p=854961#post854961
I got it sorted last night after about 40 minutes of faffing taking it off, adjusting it, refitting, testing, taking off, refitting, adjusting, refitting, testing, taking off, refitting, adjusting, refitting, testing, taking off, refitting, adjusting, refitting, testing, taking off, refitting, adjusting, refitting, testing, taking off, refitting, adjusting, refitting, testing, taking off, refitting, adjusting, refitting etc. you get the picture!
Turns out it doesn't need to be quite 180 degrees round but a lot further round than I had it. For reference, if anyone plans to takes theirs to bits in the future, this is how it should be reassembled to ensure it functions properly.
Wipers now back on and all working AOK - Woooo!

Ok,updates this week.
Re-bled all my brakes at the weekend again, and please to report so far no leaks and they work too. Had to nip up the bleed nipples a little as had some fluid escaping form them. They were already reasonably tight but am paranoid about over tightening them as I buggered the one in the rear caliper doing this.
She was reluctant to start so removed and cleaned the plugs. Got it going then after some steady gas she was idling fine. It's over fuelling a lot so really has be mapped as it's fouling the plugs.
Gotta fit a speed sensor which I will do. Also need to investigate why the PAS is not working and sort that.
Then the final hurdle of mapping. Now in traditional style as with everything on this car it's going to be an arse ache (as usual I hear you say).
The problem is, I am running an EFI Euro 1 ECU, which as far as I am aware requires a very specific cable to connect to the ECU and map it. Not only can I not locate anyone with said cable, I cannot find anyone who maps EFI (apart from one place who I am waiting to hear back on), so options are thin on the ground currently.
I have emailed track n road so waiting to hear from them. Called but no answer. Same applies for Ole Buhl as they are the distributors for EFI in the UK. I did really want to get it mapped by Sandy Brown but sadly he doesn't map EFI anymore, but he has offered to possibly swap the ECU to a DTA and do that. However it's extra cost and aggro again. Really unsure what to do at the moment??
I did drive it again Sunday for a quick test up the private test track road behind my house, and oh boy is it fun!! It's insane, but desperately needs mapping. Feels quick already but will be even better once set up, just need to work out what to do......

I agree, an inspiring thread. Any more updates on this matey ? one of the best threads in Reader's Cars.
Thanks that's very kind. One of the longest going that's for sure lol.... Well it's in storage at the moment and I plan to get it mapped for the summer so watch this space. It's stored away from where I live which is a bit of an arse in terms of being able to 'pop out' and work on it. I recently bought a house and there is no garage hence having to put it in storage, but she isn't forgotten I will get onto it again.
Can remember this as one of the first readers' rides that I fell for, awesome attention to detail on it and for me right up there with MWStewart's efforts. Would love to own it or one of a similar spec one day, when finished those throttle bodies and the satchshift will make it an absolute joy

Thanks very much. Hearing it go certainly makes me realise how awesome it is, just have to map it now. It's just there waiting for me to finish her. I haven't forgotten about it!IT's been a while........
Still haven't been able to get the time or money to map this yet. I've been doing a lot of work on the house which has clearly been sapping any available funds. I've also been toying with the idea of selling this so if anyone is seriously interested please get in touch. I am not going to give it away or sell it for the sake of it so will only let it go if the price is right. However, everything has a price! We will see. Otherwise I am aiming to get it mapped and use it. I just need to move to a house with a garage so I can keep it closer to home, at least that's the plan anyway.

Sorry to hear you might be selling it, was wondering what happened to this thread!
This build was one of my inspirations for my XSi build:

I do think you should probably get it mapped before selling it.
You'll either get more money for it or love it and decide to keep it!
