Have had two lads who have written them off who attend the local private sixth form, one of them died and killed his passenger when he put it through a wall and it caught fire. Insurance companies would agree with me.
I'll happily paypal gift him £10 upon seeing a photo of him next to said car holding copy of that days paper on boxing day.

Why was your first post so frickin' negative. If you have nothing good to say, just leave it out.I'll happily paypal gift him £10 upon seeing a photo of him next to said car holding copy of that days paper on boxing day.

Im quite intrigued to why you think the OP would write this car off. I didn't write my first car off, and that was brand new, and guess what i was 17 ontop of that.
Nice car. I do hope you enjoy your MINI adventure, one of the best handling cars I have driven. Have you checked out www.totalmini.com? If not get yourself over there and introduce yourself.
Because it is staistically likely, my best mate is an actuary for a big insurance company the chances of a 17 year old claiming in year 1 is 21% overall, but if you divide this into engine size 17 year olds driving petrol cars that are 1.6-2.0l that runs to 54%. the vast majority of cars insured for 17 year olds are 1.2 or less, and those of you that say it's not a fast car, no, not by your standards, but for a new inexperienced driver it is.

But its a 1.4 Statistics say that 21% are likely to claim, but the other 79% wont.
21%<79%, just FYI

It's a 1.4l...Anyway, not the point. Condolences for your loss, but I won't be like that.
My parents have said that I'm not allowed to give mates rides in the car more than a few miles (just to + from school if needed) untill I have had a years experience..
Tbh - learning from the people at school, about 50% of the people who write off their cars have been drink driving.. I would not even think about drink driving, so that reduces the risk..
Oh, and I will post up a pic with a paper with the date on boxing day (after the Hoon )
George
ETA: too slooooow...

I think its fair to say this whole thread boils down to the mini one being a really nice first car.!
End.
Yep.
Get onto www.minitorque.com too, some great Minis on there - if you're into the performance stuff (obviously spectating at this point) then it's great.

Funny how my quote of Robatr0n's post above didn't include a censor? Oh well, even better.
And to GFWilliams, that's a damn nice car for your first! And your dad also has a hell of a car collection! I'm currently 24, have had 4 cars in the time i've been driving and have never once come close to writing any of them off. I also know plenty of people that are also very good and confident drivers, as I'm sure you'll end up being as well.
Considering you're due to take your test shortly, I wish you all the best. If you study and concentrate enough, you'll be fine, and i'm sure you'll come out having passed and can enjoy your freedom in your Mini (you git - I had a J reg 1.1 Fiesta as my first car, with no power steering and a sunroof that wouldn't close properly!) (no jealousy here whatsoever!)
Don't let a certain arrogant person's comments knock your confidence. You'll do it and I would personally lov to see a post on here on boxing day with a time-stamped photo of you and your car in its immaculate condition!
