180ish

The touring body is a bit heavier and less aerodynamic so that will lop a few mph off the top end. Still damn quick though.
Are you sure about the aerodynamics? I remember a debate about this and they found estates had better aero then saloons......I feel a bit nerdy now
In my E36 handbook the 325tds saloon is quoted as having a top speed of 134mph, whereas the touring is quoted as topping out at 128mph. Will have to see what the 540i touring will do.

Yep, all BMW's that I'm aware of use the same diff and gearbox ratios in saloons, coupes, convertable and touring versions.

The donor Bi turbo is currently under a foot of snow, and they can't get it into the workshop

Things should happen next week, or some arses are going to get kicked

I had a nose round this car when it was sat outside CPC when he was in marlow about a year and a half ago.

My 3.8 was there and just about to be declared dead. I ended up selling it off in bits.

Will be a potent machine once together.

Right, after an hour of winching and then some Disco power we managed to get the car out of the snow drift and into the workshop.

let the stripping begin

I nearly bought an 525Xi Touring thinking of raiding the BMW parts bit to either Supercharge or Turbo the car later. The four wheel drive should put the power down a lot better.

I can feel a Chip Foose moment coming lol.

Some progress:

Diff cooler mounted behind rear bumper, seems to have a knock in the accident, but bent back into shape ok

Long range auxillary fuel tank mounted in boot, extra 20L taking total to 110L, yes thats over £120 a fill up

Rad, intercooler and oil cooler off.

All doors, bonnet and bootlid off also.

Also reomoved the exhaust and the main tank. Next job is to drop the drivetrain off.

My dad used to have one of those, plenty of traction but in standard form with the auto box it was a slow old beast! I've seen it around at various dealers and most recently a bmw breakers, so i'm guessing they realised after 3 years of being off the roads its too much of a heap to sell.

Great project Charlie, I'm slightly obsessed with 80s/90s BMWs at the moment, can't wait to see what it looks like when it's finished.
