mmmmmm nice motor biggrin

was surprised at how cream crackered those shell bearings were though !
Typical of the bearings they originally used in the engines, just weren't up to the task.

New bearings should be more than up to the job in hand smile
hmmm never knew the bearings were a weekness of the engine... am i right in saying the early exiges have the k-series engine?

They do have the K but the Exige engine revs 1000rpm higher than the K in an Elise or rover, the early type bearings aren't up to it with the standard balancing

Just bumping this as some significant progress has gone on in the last 6 months.

Check the progress in my rebuild thread here and here's a snapshot of the car on its first public appearance in 3 years... still not finished, but so very close!

Were those pics taken at the 4 and Rotary Nationals?
If so, there are a couple more pics on the nzpc website. I was just browsing through and saw your car and thought it looked familiar - never realised you were in NZ!

Its amazing how much std K stuff is in the VHPD. What TB's are they out of interest and did you go big valve?

I'm still running with the stock VHPD Titan throttle bodies, they reckon they're about the best option for them anyway. Every moving component in the engine has been changed/upgraded over stock VHPD so there's very little original VHPD parts left in it.

The only stock K parts in the stock VHPD as far as the major components are:

- Block
- Crank (although VHPD crank is Nitrided)
- Rods (although the VHPD rods are single-tang)
- Bearings
- Valves (VVC valves)

The rest is VHPD unique... The only stock K part in my engine is the crank now, and that's been tungsten-inserted and precision-balanced with the rest of the bottom end.

Thought I'd bump this. Those who want to read the whole saga can pop over to the linked thread at the start of this one. But the rebuild part is now complete, now just aiming to enjoy, maintain and keep the thing running! smile

Can't say how envious I am of this build. Just an exquisite car and a credit to you, mate. I had mine on the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone on Monday and can honestly say there's nothing else I'd rather have been driving. The most entertaining and rewarding car I've ever driven by a factor of a hundred. Look forward to hearing of your progress as you extend the rev limit as well.

Also quite adept at spotting 'go-pro wavy picture syndrome' when on-board footage appears on tv,
