Spider 916 - a dark and tormenting tale
Discussion
Great thread, Euroboy.
Twenty years ago my mates and I had a string of Sud's Sprints, 33's, GTV's and GTV6's.
Only one of them rusted (we knew what to look for) but back in those days they'd get to about 50k miles before various oily/moving/leccie bits would start to let go.
I remember my 1.3 SC Sud ending up as a 1.5 with a 1.2 (low ratio) box and new/replaced just about everything else. Witches broom indeed :-)
No rust, though, and it would spank a GTI on a bumpy B road.

Fantastic thread!!!
I owned a FIAT Coupe 16VT for 3 months last year, which I took as a swap for a FIAT Seicento Sporting track car... From Feb 10th when I picked her (Francesca) up to May 03 when I sold her (£1000), I'd spent in the region of £1000 on new oil, new belts and a new clutch. I knew I was throwing money away but there's something so horribly loveable about old Italians that I ended up just paying and paying and paying. I now have the car I've wanted since they came out but was too young to insure, a Clio 197 (awesome). But, sometimes, and only sometimes, I do miss that FIAT.
Fair play for keeping the old girl on the road and best of luck with it!!!

Blimey, so the reputation is justified. It's made for an interesting read though, so thanks for writing.
This is a single owner sharing his singular experience. Admittedly A lex has had a torrid time with his, but there are thousands of owners out there who have had very reliable GTVs and Spiders, myself being one of them. So no, not entirely justified.Hi bud,
Great thread - really interesting read.
I admire your dedication.
The car looks sublime with the upgraded suspension - a subtle drop makes such a difference visually. Are you tempted by some spacers to bring the wheels out a little?
Also has the strut brace made much difference to handling and scuttle shake?
I have a later model Spider and it handles like st and is very wobbly. Later this year I will be investing in an Eibach and Koni combo and I am also considering a strut brace. Hard to find many people that have fitted them however to get decent feedback.
Great see you still in love with the car after all this time.
