Story
My Father and I were looking for a project car. Initially we were interested in Ford Escort MK1's. However as their prices have skyrocketted we decided a much better idea would be a mini, and we're glad of that now!
So after a bit of looking around and working out what we wanted we found this mini on eBay of all places. We placed a few bids but it never made reserve. So we enquired about it and were invited up for a look. We took the cash we were willing to pay and came away with the mini.
It has all MoT's bar 1 and a pile of reciepts for services over the years. It's barely done more than 5,000 in a year and only has 56,000 on the clock. We were happy.
So that was November 2008. So in a year we took her off the road and fixed some of the small rust problems. Although as always we're planning for having to do more in the not so distant future. We also modified her to our tastes, with all the exterior stuff and a stage 1 kit (air filter, carb needle, inlet and outlet manifold, down pipes and all the way back to the twin dtm outlets. Her name is Alex and she's great. Although as her plate is EAW some people have taken to calling her Ee-ore, Donkey, Onkey the Donkey... you win some you lose some eh?
So over christmas 2009 she gained white dials, wipac quadoptic headlamps and a pair of wipac spotlamps... although there is another pair to go on soon. And as of 10/04/10 we have got Twin HS2 carbs coming our way and on the look out for a 12g202 or similar cylinder head. Marvellous.

Okay let's do a new intro...
So as you might have read above my Dad and I got a 1989 998 Mini "Racing Green". Since then we have added twin carbs, a maniflow exhaust, new inlet manifold for the twin carbs, spot lamps, sportspack arches and done a lot of maintenance and rust removal!! At one point I cocked up the gear box so there is now a recon box fitted. The doors are new and so is a lot of the chrome fittings etc. Oh yeah the sealed beam headlights were replaced with wipac items, the standard fusebox was changed and there are custom dials inside.
So here's a bunch of photos...

I Am Milk said:
I used to have on of these.
Was standard apart from some revolutions, stage one kit, ported head and 289 race cam.
Would see 8,500RPM until the crankshaft broke!
Your car looks absolutely great, I hope you continue to enjoy it!
8500rpm!? Was it bouncing the points then? lol Was standard apart from some revolutions, stage one kit, ported head and 289 race cam.

Definitely will enjoy this for a long time, it's all about smiles per hour, not miles per hour
So Dad picked up an engine this morning. A bit of internet searching reveals it to be a 1997 - 2000 1275 twin point injection engine. 63bhp 70lb ft, obviously will go up as our car doesn't have a cat and the injection will be taken off. Although it won't be going in yet as we've only bought it to use the gearbox. Which annoyingly has a 2.7:1 final drive, even worse than ours which I've recently discovered is a 3.1:1 not the 2.95:1 I thought it had.
So we'll have to get that changed, either back to the 3.1 or even better a 3.44. Have to talk to Dad about it though.

Finally the garage is pretty much finished. So the mini was driven back in 4th. Just spent 15 minutes starting to take bits apart
Before
After
I've removed all 4 wheels, bonnet, horn and air filter.
Got stumped removing last bit of the air filter as I need a stubby phillips, and all I have is a stubby flathead that is still too big
