Evening..

By popular demand, we figured it would be a good idea to start a build thread for the Redvictor 3 project.. So, lucky old me will be posting quite a few items on this thread to bring things up to date..

Feel free to dive in with any questions on the build, either Andy (Redvictor) or myself will endeavour to answer them..

For starters, here's the engine specifications..

redvictor said:
540ci(8.8ltr)Chevrolet engine, billet Race flow development(USA) heads that flow a lot,a special roller camshaft twin 91mm Garrett turbos,Motec M800 managment system tuned by Shane Tecklenburg,16 injector dynamic ID2000 injectors(3370cc each),Waterman 20 gallon per minute fuel pump amonst many other things that make all of this work.
That'll get explained in further detail when we get to the engine build stage..

So, sit down and enjoy the ride.. (oh, and BTW, "I" in this context is Andy, not me!)

More information about RV2, the team and what we do available at www.redvictor1racing.co.uk

Nigel at Altiss finally got the car stripped to a bare shell. I picked it up today and drove it to Wayne Allman's Intergalactic Custom shop!
Today is the start of a new chapter in this car's long history...

Totally stripped and in std form.

If any of you who know Wayne you understand that the car will be awesome when it's done.Anyone who doesn't will know soon..biggrin

A pic of one of the new turbos. There's a mug next to it for size comparison.
I'll be updating when some mods are done, hopefully Jen will be taking better pics than i can.
I'll be setting up a slush fund to keep Wayne working non stop.. Donations of sandwiches and coffee are welcome.. tongue outmsl:
ANDY.

A little more done. The doors won''t look quite right until the window surrounds go back on,right after the roof chop..lol
Unless you know these cars it's difficult to explain all the little bits to do.
These photo's sponsored by Wayne's intergalactic custom shop btw..biggrin

This one might not look much but will be an integral part of the mould. When the door opens it has to look like the old car did.

Today's upgrades. Wayne is into it now. This is just a look see to make sure it looks right before welding..

another view..

this pic shows how the roof has been chopped and the windscreen pillars raked. The chrome trim is the original shape and size.Without this you probably wouldn't notice..

the back end is a little more complete now. The back has the swage line levelled up,and the vent is back to the same length. The rear window is 2 inches shorter.
Next job is to fill the rear panel in(or make a new one),stretch the rear arches and match the bottoms of the rear wings..
I have to accomodate 36" tall rear tyres for when we go to them.
Kudos to Wayne,he's an exceptional talent with bodywork..

This gives more of an idea how the mods have been done. Obviously the original trim is how it was...

anyhoo,back on topic for a brief second...biggrin
Wayne decided that it would be quicker to roll up a new quarter panel rather than tack a 100 pieces together.
I know the interior looks tatty..lol
before..

after..

You can see the way Wayne has curved the panel outwards slightly to make room for bigger tyres..

a different angle..

Just a couple of pics today..
It took Wayne all day to recut and curve the window trims to fit the apertures,
especially as the rear window is 4" shorter and all the rest of the windows are at different angles..

Update today. Things are moving quite well.Wayne stretched the rear wheelarches to accomodate 36" tyres. The wheel centre is moved back 4 and arches stretched 9""
The first pic shows how little the original wheels are.The second and third are just to show the wheelsize in the body.btw, that is only 30" dia cardboard..lol
Cardboard wheels are used because A/ i haven't got any real ones yet. Our Mickey Thompson PRO 5 beadlocks are on the way.and B/ if we cut the body out to fit real wheels the car would fall apart..:-D
The last 12" of the rear corner needs replacing and luckily i have found a guy who is cutting the back off a car he has..
Also the trims around the windows have been shrunk and resized to fit the different sized windows. All the trim will be part of the mould so they will be aerodynamic but still look origianl(ish)..lol

not so much happening this week. Wayne has been doing the little bits that take forever to do.
Next week should see bigger stuff being done as i have a new rear corner for the car, which will mean Wayne can turn the car around and finish up the other side without the shell falling apart..biggrin
The C pillars have been really tricky because they are 3 inches shorter, but the vent is the same length! also getting the trims the right shape for the 4" shorter rear screen was interesting..

Imagine this with 4" taller wheels and the body 6" lower.

The front window frame back on. Every angle is now different and it all had to match the roof and A pillar lines.

Monday update.
The trims around the windows are an integral part of the old car that has to be on the new one. As they are all different shapes it's taking a bit of work to make them look and fit right.
This first one is the bottom of the B post that has to be a different curve because of the roof chop. The second and third show the post welded back up and the trim fitted.

The last one shows how the rest of the trim fits in relation to the centre.Yes,i know it's boring..lol Big stuff later this week. Thanks for following it all.

Update. Wayne has been busy chopping out the rust and replacing the rear corner.
As you can see from the first pic the rear panel is hanging. Luckily Colin Smith,a good friend and long time Vauxhall club member had 2 rear wings for me to cut up!

although i was a bit concerned that the rear looked too short Wayne assures me that when the bumper and big rear wing are on there it won't look short at all..

First a couple of pics to show how subtle this build is, Everyone who knows FD's (about 50 of us..lol) knows about the roof gutter and how it is shaped. Unfortunately we need to keep it in some form, but make it more aero. So.................... Wayne has tapered it down so it matches the window line. We'll blend the gutter into the roof which will keep the line but make it aero.

The next 2 pics are the car turned the other way round to mirror the work already done.
At this angle the body shape is very different from standard.

Offer up a sheet of metal.

Roll to shape and tack in.

Unusually a morning update. Wayne has started the work to mirror the mods done on the other side. As you can see there's a lot of rust to deal with as well as all the modifications! To make it an easier job the bottom of the rear wing will be cut to shape when the shell goes on the ramp.

And just like buses 2 updates come along at once.:-D
Wayne just had to cut the front and stretch it to have an idea what it was going to look like. Probably like a 60's funny car..lol Obviously this is just a check out.. There's a lot left to do but it should be done for xmas.
There is also going to be a time lapse video of the whole build btw,and it looks awesome so far!
Front cut off.

back on for a trial fit.

and lowered to 2" above where the car will sit.

side view.

back view.
