Hi all im new on the forums
Thought id see what sort of reception my rare little beast will get on Piston heads shes a rather rare 1 of 50 Jetta GT customised for VW by a company back in the day from silverstone called GTi engineering. All the special eddition items on the car are as they were from VW however anything standard to a Mk2 GT has changed a little. Spec as follows

86 Jetta GT (originally 1.8 Injected engine)with a 2.8 VR6 mk3 golf engine swap through a Jetta GTi 16v exhaust the swap includes all subframes power steering, etc. I have also carried out a full Seat Toledo dash conversion and it looks supprisingly at home.

Well take a look and let me know what you think smile

Very nice - love the contrast band. Nice to see a period VW with the correct size tyres on too!

Did you or a previous owner carry out the VR6 swap, only Im pretty sure that it would not have been done by GTI Engineering.

As far as I know GTI Engineering offered engine packages based on the engine that was fitted by VW, they did a Plus-Pac and RE1900 and RE2000 conversion for both the 8v and 16v engines, the number denoting the new capacity.

They did do VR6 stuff but only specified for Mk3 Golfs and would have been denoted Plus Pac, Super Plus Pac, REC3000 (2.8 - 3l), REC3100 (2.9 - 3.1l) or REC3100S (2.8 - 3.1l).

A few years back a mate of mine had a Mk2 RE2000 16v, it really did go well compared to my standard 16v.

Do you have any of the GTI Engineering documentation with the car, or the plaque on the slam or scuttle panel, this plaque will show the RE details and a few other things?

Im not saying your lying, Im just interested to know, as like I said, as far as I knew they didnt do swaps such as this.

Noooo!! You took out the best bit!

A true GTi Engineering motor would've been far better to keep than a lardy VR6.

Those things were new when I started driving, some had the body kit only, while some had the full RE engine as well. I would've kept the 16v mechanicals as those engines were a peach.

....so other than that I like it smile

This is proper 80s Kool, a true rare beast and one of the few special editions that works in white.

It is most likely it was originally a 8v GTI engineering lump so a Vr6 swap is clearly a huge improvement.

Im more interested in the Toledo dash swap - any pics?

Thanks for the kind words people but dont panic the conversion didnt change anythin that GTi Engineering did. When the cars were made for VW GTi Engineering only did body modifications and suspension changes none of the 50 had engine mods carried out hence i say everything special about the car has been left original. I did the engine swap because the original untuned GTi 8v enginge blew up and i felt i wanted to bring the GT up to date a bit heres the original sales info

Oh now that is very nice indeed smile
The dash doesnt look too out of place, at all.
Jettas themselves are really thin on the ground as it is, but this is a very clean looking example.

Very very cool. I remember GTI Engineering - all their mods were acclaimed.

Still miss my Jetta 16V frown
