Here is the slowest bit of 'racing' you're ever likely to see this side of a snail betting ring..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0pSxxg_bskDidn't wanna go forwards anyway.... If you flick through some of the other video's from the 4wd's you'll see why we were struggling even more when they get to the really deep crap near the end....

Well, got our nice new 15 tooth starter wheel and new clutch centre yesterday, so, in a mad rush today, we chopped the starter mount off, fitted the new pinion gear, moved the mountings welded it all back up, refitted the clutch, lifted the engine in, bolted the rear frame/cage back on, fitted the exhaust/wiring/oil/fuel lines/etc, and fired her up!
With an hour of tweaking with some cold start enrichments it's now much faster at starting again, great.
So, fitted the floor, seats, belts, etc, put it in gear to reverse out of the workshop and load up to go racing tommorow. And no drive.
Feck.
So, by this time completely knackered from rushing around, and after lots of energetic swearing, we got stuck in and ripped it all back out in about 10 minutes. Only to find the clutch pressure plate has died and there's no way of fixing it or getting a new one in time for tommorow.
I am just very slightly annoyed. A little bit. About a hairs-width away from setting the thing on fire.

I was going to come to watch later today (lunchtime) but didn't bother after reading your tale of woe. Sympathies.

Would have been worth a wander, although a little earlier than lunchtime would have been better!

that sport does look absolutely as cool as feck.
how does your back cope, are you constantly at the chiropractor's or is the suspension super brilliant and takes all the bashing out of it?

Errr, the suspension takes a lot of the hit, but you certainly feel it the next day!

And I thought you took your spine out and left it in the spares truck. Along with the parts of the brain involved with fear, accounting, and choosing sensible weekend pursuits.

Yeah, I'm thinking of taking up speed knitting instead.
Although I'll probably end up trying to make some lightweight carbon-fibre knitting needles with interlinked suspension...

Been in a few landy beam axled cars like that - usually the springs are too soft, then the ride is bad, so they make the springs even softer.... Convinced one of them try double the spring rates at the last event to match the dampers - he managed to find some close to what I worked out he wanted - and he nearly kissed me when he came back from the next run The buggy's not too bad - we don't have quite the travel of the top boys, but it rides relatively well* - although still get the harness burns and reach for the ibuprofen the next day! *still a lot of improvements to come mind! I've another good picture of that bridge at Waterbeach when I rescue it from up at the workshop

Compression test today after a sudden loss of power at the last event - looks like this one is kaput too. Yay.

Shame about the engine,it will be interesting to see what's gone wrong with it as high revving is supposed to suit these engines.
