We get the odd stone/debris stuck between the backing plates of the pads and the discs, the inner and outer cutouts will just help clear that debris, helps shed water, etc too.

Anyway, jig for the rear arms is finished, so should have a full arm mocked up shortly.
Ah, nice thinking.

Thanks for the reply and for the thread in general!

I'll answer any and all questions I can, if nothing else it means I question why I've done something myself and make sure I have done the right thing biggrin
They do have a secondary effect which is keeping the weight the same as the old discs too, whilst still sweeping the whole pad surface, and thanks for reading and commenting, it's nice to see people enjoy the updates, gives me a bit more of a kick up the arse to get it finished when I know it's not just us wanting to see it fire up, too, win-win. wink

Hopefully, some people will be reading through and thinking "That looks fun", or "I want to fly too!", or even "What a dumbass, he should have done 'x' like 'y' instead", then build their own car and come and have a play themselves, as they say, the more the merrier.

I was talking to an old friend about the same thing today (getting it started), and his words were:

"I don't care if it starts up or not, I just want to see if it explodes"

hehe

Although if it blows up before it starts something is definately not right...

I like how the answer to every question in this thread has been "more".

Yeah, the only issue with that one is it's also the answer to "How much does it weigh?" frown

What's the target weight? Don't think you will have any problems making enough power!

I'm only just catching up on this one, nice work!

How much does a supercharger like that weigh?

I've only just seen this thread, and it is fantastic. Not read everything but skipping back to the start, I've seen this thing before, a few years ago at Oulton Park, on the drift track. As you said, it was hilarious to see this thing going round with S2000, 3 series, TVR, and a few RWD Nissans...

We called it "Mad Buggy of Doom" because we didn't know what the hell it was, and it looked lethal hehe

Now the mystery is solved, and what you've done to it since is mental, brilliant, and brown trousers levels of WTF, all at the same time!!! biggrin

Well done sir.

Haha, thanks, I actually still use that moniker on a couple of forums those pictures were on hehe

The supercharger only weighs ~ 16.5 kg, however there's the extra weight of the engine too, another 25kg, and about 5kg more in plumbing and piping/mountings. The exhaust is 2kg heavier too.

Having said that, we've lost 10kg from chopping bits out and redoing brackets, the new bodywork and fittings should be a good 5-6kg lighter, the rear arms will be 2kg a piece lighter even though they're bigger, and the wheels should be 2kg lighter per pair, which offsets a little of the weight. The aim is to be well under 940kg loaded (inc driver, etc) which is about 100kg heavier than I'd like wink

Getting there with the rear arms, Ed finished a jig and tacked up one side just to double check clearances:

Are you going to go with that super awesome rear wing/spoiler that you sketched up a few pages ago?

Yep, probably get the car up and running for some testing before that goes on though, very much on the back burner for the moment. I may vent and spat the wheelarches too at the same time.

Long time without updates, but it's back in pieces again:

Basically having the surfaces machined true and making sure everything is spot on and prepped as it all goes back together, all the sealing tape off the ports, new gaskets, aligning all the new belt runs, etc, ready for firing up.

After trying the double diaphragm clutch the other month, went hunting for a tiny pull-type hydraulic slave cylinder, eventually found one that would fit, so onto the other end:

Yes, strange shaped bulkhead with the fuel tank behind plus a requirement for the fluid reservoir to be behind the bulkhead led to a strangely shaped pedal too. Only a mock up (the ally tube is too soft to support the bearings long term, probably make a sleeved one), but seems to work ok.

And everything fell off the car again so the rear geo. jig could go on to finalise the rear arms:

Well, the slow progress will be even slower now, as after moving to a little bit bigger workshops/units/containers - with some solid flooring for a change - one week later some theiving swines have broke into every shed/container/unit we had overnight. Great.

Usual prompt police response after being rung this morning, still not arrived, now it's started raining and the prints and footprints are washing away, thanks Plod.
