It was when he had to stop for a nice cup of tea that I became suspicious. wink

Get it serviced & put it in for an MoT to see what it needs. Expecting at least £300 worth of welding, once that's done and I have some spare money it will be going in to get all the cosmetical work done.

Just stumbled across this thread and looked at your website. Good on you Kamil! If only more kids were this way inclined these days.

Also I wasnt surprised to see you were Eastern European...much more likely to be "old school" and prepared to get stuck into a project like this (and be entrepreneurial) than the current crop of chavtastic, wannabeamerican, me me me tards that seem to represent a large portion of UK born youth.

Well done chap. Nice looking motor you have there. Bet you cant wait to get to 17 to fully enjoy it smile

Doesn't matter how old you are, when you're working on an old car you HAVE to stop for a cup of tea every now and again! (Although when I started on my Austin at 8 I tended to have a hot chocolate, but by the time I was 10 I would very maturely drink tea with dad!).

I can vouch for Kamil being as old as he says he is, that or he's quite old but has some fantastic anti-aging equipment!

All of my service bits have now arrived - Castrol oil from the Halfords sale, gearbox oil & a genuine Jaguar oil filter. I have decided not to change the gearbox filter for two reasons

1) I'll probably mess up with removing the sump
2) I know it was done 8000 miles ago and the fluid has only just began turning 'dark' red so the filter should be OK for now and it will save me £30.

I have now got the paint here waiting for the weather to improve. Once I've got it looking a little neater I will get a flatbed here and hewill be taken to a friend's garage to get sorted for the MoT.

Finally got round to doing the service today. A much easier job than I expected, the sump plugs came off without bother and the filter came off by hand.

Great stuff. Dont forget to start the sump plug by hand first, and dont over-tighten. Oh, and put the oil in AFTER you put the sump plug in, not before. Ask me how I know this, I dare yer!

I was very careful not to over-tighten the sump plug after reading a post on XJ40.com about the cost of replacing a sump on one of these.

Did some more painting today, only the end result wasn't anywhere near the one from a couple of days ago. frown

And a picture of it in the sun;

Ah, just keep going at it - bodywork & paint is the single most difficult area for a DIYer to achieve pro results (as I know all too well from my impecunious student days) - but if you aren't afraid to do it over and over again until you're satisfied, you'll nail it in the end thumbup

I had a go at some more spraying today, a little bit more around the rear screen and I re-did the bit I did last time.

It turned out a hell of a lot better than last time. Need to order more paint now...

I fitted a new rotor arm to it today, hasn't been changed for a couple of years and the new one only cost a fiver. Hope to have the car sent off for welding soon.
