It's always good to keep a spare in the garage when using an older British motor as a daily, isn't it?
I'm really impressed you still have this, been following it since you pretty much got it. Although, by the time you can legally drive it, it'll probably cost £500,000 to fill it up...
Keep up the good work. My dad and I have been looking at potential project cars for some time now- these we always come back to...

Not much progress but a small update is better than none. I have finished tracing the car's history and got a set of imperial wheels with tyres to replace the current metric wheels, for which tyres cost £270/corner. I have now sent the new wheels off to be refurbished and will post pictures when they return, hopefully by the end of the week.
Now, some of you may recall that in late 2010 I applied for a copy of previous owners' details for F650EDV from the DVLA. It turned up in the post several days later and I sent off three letters to the three previous owners of my car. I got a reply from a relative of the first owner & the car's third owner. But I never got anything back from the car's second owner.
A chap on Pistonheads was offering free HPI checks from his website (icarcheck.net). I ran through the website the number plate of my car. It returned saying the car had a private plate (DMM1J) which was transferred back on 22/09/2004. I thought this date rang a bell - I dug out the document containing the details of previous owners and on 20/09/2004 the car was sold by the second owner. A quick look on taxdisc.direct.gov.uk showed the private plate that was once on F650EDV is currently on a newer Silver Jaguar Sovereign.
There was still a chance DMM1J still belonged to the previous owner of my car and there was a chance the second owner still resided in the same area.
I briefly mentioned this in an email conversation with Letitia Mace of Xclusively Jaguar, who resides in the same area as the first & second owners of F650EDV. She said she recalls seeing DMM1J on a silver Jaguar Sovereign previously in the area and would try and speak to the driver the next time she saw the car.
Well, a few weeks ago I had an email drop into my inbox. Letitia had seen the car parked in her local Tescos car park, so she walked over and the driver was sitting in the car - a nice lady called Beryl. The driver of the current DMM1J confirmed that the number plate was originally on a dark green Daimler S3 V12 and that it was then transferred to a dark red Sovereign. She said that all of the Jaguars were at one time owned by her late husband.
Beryl rang Letitia yesterday and I got an email back from Letitia with some more history on the car and Beryl's contact details. I rang Beryl today and she confirmed that her husband was a previous owner of F650EDV. She said they bought the car as a one owner, low mileage example - apparently the first owner mostly used the car for trips to the local golf course. She said she has an A3 print of their dark green S3 V12 and my XJ40 both wearing DMM1J at the time of transfer as well as an A3 print of my XJ40 and her current silver Sovereign also both wearing DMM1J at the time of transfer. She said she will scan these and get Letitia to email the scans on to myself. She also informed me that, whilst her husband was in hospital, she had the car resprayed as a surprise present for him. When she went to collect him from hospital, he asked if she was sure she had got the correct car, as this one looked brand spanking new. She also told me the reason for the droopy headliner - it came apart when the car was in the oven following painting.
That draws a close to to tracing the history of my car - and what a fantastic history it is.

Fantastic thread you have here Kamil, and it's great to see someone so young have so much love for a car.
I have to ask though, what is the final stage you are aiming for? I only ask because, it's obvious to most that it will be many many years before you are legally able to use the car, due to insurance etc...So whats the plan?

Insurance isn't too bad - when I'm 17 it would cost £2600 - and the parents have said they'd be happy to pay for this and fuel. However I am considering leaving the Jag as a weekend toy, perhaps for when I'm a little older and can afford to run two cars, and getting something like a new/nearly new Volkswagen Up! as a daily snotter.I have to ask though, what is the final stage you are aiming for? I want to have the car immaculate, eventually. But for now, I'm hoping to have it back on the road this summer for the parents to drive to meets with me. Then, I'll focus on sorting the cosmetic side of the bodywork bit by bit.

why lose so much on an 'up' when you can buy a sub £1000 car which would be reliable enough.I want to have the car immaculate, eventually. Because a sub £1k car will lack the refinement and almost certainly reliability of a new/nearly new car and it would be rather old for a daily. It's only an idea (thought of by the parents), I may well end up using the Jag.kamilb1998 said:

If I was starting to drive now, I'd buy a circa mid 90's 1.3 colt or the like as my first road car. But if someone was going to buy me a a new VW, that'd be a different matter.
I can't imagine it's be difficult to find a sub £1000 car which would match a modern super mini for refinement.
Reliability however, is a different kettle of fish and has quite a lot of luck involved. Luck to find a car which has been well looked after.
Finally got the phone call on Friday to say that the new set of wheels I've bought is ready for collection. Must say they look stunning now, no before pictures unfortunately but take my word for it, they really were horrid.
All the old thing needs now is a little paint, a headliner and some welding. I plan to have it sent off for welding and whatever else it may need for the MoT in the first week of June and hopefully have it all sorted by July.

Yes, I have switched to imperial teardrops. The metric wheels on my car needed new tyres all round as, despite only being an '08' date stamp, they have gone quite hard and have developed some cracks which could easily lead to a blow out.
The metric tyres are expensive at £280 / corner and the imperial wheels will significantly reduce the cost. The metric tyres are also runflats so the ride quality on the imperial wheels should be even smoother.
