Great. Not that you need any more encouragement, but this was me 20 years (!!) ago

20 years ago? I hate to break it to you but this is not 1979...

The time has come! I've started my 5Day driving course on Monday (yesterday) and bought learner insurance for the Jag. An old barge on L plates is certainly not an every day sight!

Brilliant.

Going for a manual licence anyway though?

Thanks for the comments, chaps. Yes, going for a manual licence so unfortunately the test will not be done in the Jag.

sorry to be that guy who asks but how difficult was it for you to find insurance for a XJ40 at 17? Do you have to have one of those horrible little black boxes fitted?

Need to shop around as with anything else, comparison sites came up with quotes of £5k+ but I went direct to Aviva and they'll do it for a little over £2k. That's without a black box.

Good to know, my nephew will be learning to drive later on in the year.

Congratulations on a spectacular first car as well, I very much miss my old XJ40 Sov.

Congrats, best of luck with the practical as well. Regarding the insurance I've found for my Jag, Merc and BMW which are all large engined Aviva always came out best considering I'm only 21, however a mate suggested using confused.com and I have to say all the quotes came back cheaper than the ones from compare the market - best results were from Elephant I think
