12 yr old with a Jaaaag!
Discussion
Cam sprockets are now properly in, took a couple of attempts but got there eventually, inlet manifold is now properly on, the air filter box, the air flow meter & the camcover is ready for primer. All it needs now is a torque wrench to get the exhaust manifold and the head torqued down. Dad said he will be able to bring one from work but now he can't so I'll ring some mates round tomorrow to see if I can borrow one off someone.
It's running but not all's well. I started it up and noticed smoke coming out of the engine. I shut it down and saw oil having come out all over the engine bay. I started it up for a couple of seconds again and saw oil burbling out from around the upper tensioner. I got straight on the phone to Rob but he said that it's difficult to diagnose without seeing it. I unbolted the tensioner and found the body of it to have snapped but I can't seem to get the tensioner out now :S

Go for a new part. Don't skimp on important parts lad!
The thing is at the minute I can't afford a new part. I however found a used one of the revised tensioners on eBay for £15 so may get this temporarily and then get a new part when I have the money (around £80 incl. VAT & Postage)The eBay chain tensioner (one of the revised ones) arrived along with some Instant Gasket yesterday. I got it fitted today and I can safely say that Oliver is now properly fixed! I was a little nervous at first because there was smoke coming out from the exhaust manifold area at first but I had a look and it turned out to just be some oil left over on the manifold from when the tensioner let go, but I got him up to temperature and he stayed at a steady 90 degrees. I drove him up and down the close a couple of times and the power steering has come back, but the brake pedal has a little more travel than I remember it to.

Its certainly started to live up to the 80s reliability standard. Took it up and down the close tonight and the steering suddenly got very noisy, came back in to find he's dumped most of his Power Steering oil out . Suspected high pressure hose but it was dark so I'll be having a good look over the system tomorrow after school to see what the problem is.

Garlic; can we please give this guy a PH feature?
He's talented and certainly deserves some big scale publicity as it makes good reading
Thanks, I certainly wouldn't mind writing something for a PH feature. Garlic; can we please give this guy a PH feature?

I went out again today and have found the source of the leak. It appears that the low pressure hose - CAC9992 - that goes past the air con compressor has been split by the belt chafing at it. It doesn't look right to me, seems too close to the belt.

You didn't tell me your steering pump pipe failed! :P
Is this heading anywhere near me next year?
If you'd keep up with my Facebook updates you'd know Is this heading anywhere near me next year?
If all goes to plan and it's back on the road next year - hoping to get it in the paintshop by March - it will probably be going to some shows/meets round your way.
Went out and got a pair of new number plates as the rear one's reflective sheet had a light chip. Not the correct pre-2001 font but they were cheap, £12, instead of the quotes of £35+ I had for the number plates with the pre-2001 font.
It is nearing being back on the road now. I will spray paint the rust treated areas for now and have it done professionally at some point later this year. After the spray painting is done all it needs is a battery and then a trip on a flatbed to a mechanic friend who will get it road worthy.
I will obviously alsodo things like greasing the brake caliper guide pins before sending it off as it has been stood for over a year now and whilst it was still driven every 2-3 weeks it was only 100ft drives up and down the Close so things like the brakes are slightly 'sticky'.
