me to?

Can understand why a 15 year old would want a mk1 mini or golf etc rebuilding it for when they turn 17 but at 12 what can you do with a Jag?

Can't do anything with it at 17. I'm pretty sure I couldn't insure it at 20 now.

Wow. I would be impressed if you owned a Fiesta at 12, let alone a Jag, and you got it for a bargain price.

I must admit, I do find it bait strange how you are doing this considering you wont even be able to insure it at 20, let alone 17, so your going to have a veeery long wait before you can drive it.

Nevertheless, well done chap. It's nice to see an older car getting the treatment it deserves.

For the pleasure of owning it and restoring it.

Very cool Kamil, and you have an excellent website too.

More space in the back seats?

It is insured in my parents' name and they currently drive it. And I was actually looking for a cheap Original MINI to restore and I once did a quick search on classics for under 200 pound and the Jag came up so I thought I might place a bid on it and thats how I came to own it. I have had insurance quotes when I put my details through confused.com with a 17 yr old birth date, I got a quote of 3500 per year which is quite a bit, I'm hoping the insurance prices will go down by the time I'm 17 though. There is a bloke on the Owners' Club Forum who has a 4-litre XJ40 and he's 19 and has it insured for something like 2800, you just have to look well to get a low quote.

Just a quick update on the work:-

I got round to removing the scuttle panel today to see if the leak I had was coming from there, when I got it off it looked as though there was a bodge there. When I jabbed it with a screwdriver it went straight through the metal plate that had been GLUED into a load of newspaper and then filled in...very badly around the edges.

So all that crap out of there, sanded down to nice metal, Hammerite'd, filled in for now and painted. Tested it to see if it solved the problem and it did!

As the filler was out, I thought I'd give the rust on the inner wings a jab and it did come through the rust on the drivers side, filled that in and painted it too. As the filler was drying before the painting on the drivers side I also got the filler on the other inner wing sanded down and painted.

Grenadier red?? Looks lovely!! At 12 I was mad on cars but the best I could get was a Vespa 50 special in blue with the following year starting motocross.

I too have a Jag itch to scratch. For less than 2k you can have a very good X300 or an awesome XJ40. Pointless having 10k cars that lose money when you can waft for a couple of grand - I know they cost a lot on fuel but compared to my Evo7 it would be more efficient plus I could bank a few grand.

They're actually very economical for their size. I get 22-ish mpg running around, in the late teens in urban driving and aproaching 30 on a run. I think that's pretty good! The V12 is worse though...
It's just personal taste really, but I prefer the look of the XJ40 to the X300. On your budget, you would get a very good one too!

Just to let you all know I've changed the name of the website to projectxj40.weebly.com because it will be easier to find on Google (when they put it on) and also because its easier to remember.
