Nice one Kerry I enjoyed reading this smile

Some questions for you if thats alright..

1) How noticeable was the FMIC compared to the old one?
2) How agressive is the map on that tune, and at what rpm does the brutal boost kick in at?
3) What size is your exhaust and do you have an angled flange or straight and with or without a cat?

Both Jenx and I are new ovlov owners and I am putting together a performance package for mine which a mate has helped me with as he fabricates exhausts. It will include a full zero-cat from turbo compressor back, 3" system with just one box in, and a custom ecu map which I am still writing. The map will be designed to run with 395cc 'blues' and a 19T, and we're hoping to see circa 350.

These cars are fun because they are really cheap to tune and even cheaper to buy.. Oh, I'm trying to find out at what point the gearbox is going to let go.. because they're both autos which is why writing the map is interesting.. I need to build boost late and not early like the manual maps biggrin

Great thread, and brilliant car. I've loved 850s since I was a child, and am seriously considering a T5 or T-5R/850R in the summer when I turn 19. I do love the colour of yours too.

ETA Just noticed you're in East Sussex, whereabouts? I'm in Brighton and if it isn't to cheeky to ask, would love a look at the car.

Great thread, enjoyed from start to finish, well till now. I presume your next step is more power? Keep up the good work - money, time & effort well spent imo.

P.s. Piano black would be a nice touch to the dash rather than the 'wood'.

Many thanks. I am hoping to get AP brakes next and then more power as you say. Good idea, the base model 850's had black inserts - it is something I will consider doing.

No problem, ask away any time!

1) Very, especially when hot - after a lap of the nurburgring or a long drive on a hot day you can notice the heat soak with the old set up. With the new IC, the car goes the same every time you press the accellerator. Will see how it copes with the ring!

2) The boost really kicks in at 2.5k rpm and sharply increases all the way up to 5,250 rpm and then very gradually trails off. No point revving past 5.5K rpm as the 15G turbo starts to run out of puff!

3) The exhaust is 3" all the way from the turbo. I cant remember the type of flange, I will double check.

I have read on the american forums that they dont like to go over 300 bhp on the auto boxes - Andy's R on here has 280 odd bhp on his 850R and his is fine with it. I know he is looking to push the boundaries of the auto box a bit, not sure if he is upping the power any further at this stage.

Your project sounds good - do you have a project thread anywhere?

No project thread yet as still determing which way I'm going to go. The end goal I'm trying to achieve is circa 330hp WITH a reliable auto box, which is why I want the boost to come in progressively and later to help preserve the box and the standard rods. The plan is to fit two auxillery oil coolers (one in each lower side vent on the spoiler) and use decent fluids. I have a load of maps that I am comparing, the Rica is very aggressive and I want to develop a map that is much smoother. Once the system has been proven it will be easy to copy onto a mates car, Jenx. Will give you a nod when the project starts although it will probably go on T5D5 first, I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for the info it helps thumbup

Had a busy weekend this weekend..

On Saturday I set off early for Santa Pod to take part in the Run What Yer Brung. The journey took 3 hours in total and entry was £10 and a further £25 for unlimited runs. My brother and I went up in my T-5R and we met my mum and dad there who went up in their C70

I watched for a while and then my Dad and I decided to have a go. My first run was a 14.7 second 1/4 mile which I was pretty pleased with. I did a further 7 runs - I some how managed to win 7 out of my 8 runs. The cars I beat included an STI classic Impreza, a Mazda MPS, Mondeo ST220, Alfa V6, my dads C70 x 2.

My best run of the day was :

Reaction time : 0.501 seconds
Total time : 14.573
Terminal speed : 100.52 mph

I was absolutely made up with those times, especially considering I didnt do a particularly agressive start! Here are some pics :

Me vs Mondeo

And there is more....

I took Monday afternoon off to check my AFR's (and as a bonus get rough idea of bhp and torque!).

The best RR local to me is Sumopower in Rye - only an hour or so away from me. Here are a few pics :

My car on the dyno

Very pleased with the results, mte stage 2 combined with my other mods seems to get the max out of the turbo as it starts to run out of puff! AFR's perfect as well - good result!

BHP at the wheels is 260.5 bhp / 304.78 bhp at the flywheel 281 ft lbs of torque at the wheel / 328.77 ft lbs oftorque at the flywheel
Very pleased - been a brilliant weekend.

You only just beat me but then so you should, with 304bhp and a lighter car (mine is 248bhp and did a best of 14.8) wink Nice car though and a good time.

Cheers mate, thanks for the video link! Your launches were great (and 14.8 is a good time!), you almost put a car length into me from the launch lol. Have you had a go at santa pod before?

Next time I go I need to sort my starts out as my 60ft times were bad but my trap time was pretty good at over 100 mph.

I've been twice this year, and once last year, and i've been lots in the past with other cars but nothing prepares you for launching at Pod!

What was your best 60 ft time? My best was 2.36 (on the above run it was 2.39), in a FWD car you will struggle to get less than a 2.2 60 ft.

With your terminal and power, you should be getting a low 14 really, i'm pretty much maxed out for power on my normally aspirated V6 but its pretty nippy for what it is.

No updates for a while.. Here they are from June to date :

June 2011

Had a small amount of coolant loss.. Tracked it down to these :

Very small leak, but very annoying! Once hot it would evaporate off..

Had to make our own shelter from the weather :

Heater matrix had already been replaced before my ownership, good to see that it is still in great shape :

New heater pipes fitted :

NURBURGRING TRIP - 10th - 18th JUNE 2011

Went to the ring for a week with a few friends (including T4Mark with his S40 T4). 5th time we have been now so know the route off by heart and can get down there hassle free. Well and truly turned into an annual trip now!

At Folekestone, way too early in the morning! :

Shot on the way down taken from inside Marks T4 :

Trip to the supermarket to get the essentials :

Marks t4 fully loaded, was low enough on coilovers without a boot full of beer! :

Few random parked up shots :

Went to the nurburgring museum on a rainy day :

Most importantly.... Marks T4 on the circuit :

And the reason why mine wasnt frown .... :

Split the big rear engine mount and couldnt risk taking it around. Gives me a good excuse to go back though if nothing else!

Bought one of these after getting back from the Nurburgring :

The mount has been superceeded twice since the original, and the one on my car is the last original mount I haven't already replaced - probably about due to be replaced anyway.

Glad Mark was there to help me fit it otherwise I wouldnt have had a clue how..

Oh dear :

July 2011

Mot now due, 6 days before I get a clicking noise from the o/s front. Had to order one of these :

Volvo no longer do the cv joint separately AFAIK so managed to get this one from Autolec with a 2 year / 24,000 mile warranty. I dont usually buy pattern parts but this looks to be great quality and there was no Volvo alternative..

Yeah but booking the next trip soon! Its great thanks, one of the best mods I have done to the car - power never seems to trail off like it used to when really hot outside.

I know frown Pics look great, I will definately be going next year! Did you do any laps?

Long time no update....

Done a few things recently. As some people know a certain red 850R was broken for parts so I had to get a few of the good bits that mine didnt have.

Went for these :

Stoptech BBK with carbotech xp8's. Basically big brembo's and 335 mm discs on alloy rotors with alloy carriers.

and these :

Pro race 1.2's 17" by 8.0"

Put quite a bit of time into the calipers, and they came out like this :

My friend (T4Mark) and brother helped me fit them :

Comparison with my old 302's

Came across a broken track rod end, knew something wasn't right!

Very pleased with the end result! Brakes are noticeably better even at low speeds.. Some more pics :
