Peugeot 306 GTI-6
Discussion
Hello.
Not posted much on PH, but I picked up my new car yesterday, so thought I'd put a thread up. The car is, as you probably guessed from the title, a 306 GTI-6.
The car is a 1997 R reg car, 2.0 16v, 167 BHP, and a 6 speed gearbox, which at 19, I'm quite happy with. Its covered 91K, with lots of history, although it last had a cam belt at 78K, 4 years ago, so that needs changing, as they snap for fun on these.
My plans for the car are to put it on standard Cyclone alloys, remove the front and possibly back tints, as I don't want it to be something that's been crashed through Halfords, and fit a new rear beam, as this one is knackered.
That's pretty much it, I know its not as smart as a lot of cars on here, but I love it.
Thanks for looking.

Brill, its just like my old one a few years ago. Diablo Red looks great if you keep it nice.
Please, please get the belts done, as they do like to snap for fun and its a complete engine wrecker if it does.
Do you know Carl Grimsley? He is known on a 306 forum as the man to go for so if your nearby then definitely get it over to him to do the belts. He also does refurbed cyclones and tyres to suit.
Rear beam is a good idea, the suspension is a highlight of these cars so needs looking after. new droplinks and a few new bushes on mine made a huge difference, and stock dampers are cheap too and make a big improvement over tired originals.
I'd have another GTi-6 in a heartbeat, enjoy it.

My Rallye is a delightful companion. I keep finding more niggling faults to put right and it costs me about 4x as much to run as my supposedly more exotic weekend car, but it's brilliant fun to drive and just eats the miles without complaint. Great buy - especially at 19. See Carl at C G Cars if you ever need any work doing - he's fantastic.
Whatever you do to your gti6, don't use radweld on it.
That's what the previous owner of my gti6 did and it completely blocked the heater matrix.
I'm just recovering from having to completely remove the dash to change the matrix. Their design makes them very prone to blocking. I cut the old one in half and couldn't blow the crud through with an airline!
This weekend, I shall mostly be replacing the rear beam.
Good luck with yours! D:
