the pictureless update strikes again
after all of this tomfoolery with the diffs, i removed the LSD from the car and sent it off for a rebuild i phoned the company today to recieve the bad news
it turns out 3 bolts had rattled loose, im unsure which ones at the moment although im assuming its the ones for the clutch pack rather than the bolts holding the ring gear on these bolts have been rattling around the casing and whilst on their travels they have decided to destroy the ring gear and crown wheel in the process so another diff bites the dust
im going to pick it up tomorrow and settle everything with the company but the diff is as good as scrap

Alright guys Just a wee update I've ordered the M3 LSD and after a chat with the cove at CR M-tech I'm also getting the 3.0 M3 propshaft as well The propshaft is a direct replacement for the 328i propshaft and it will save me having to change the input flanges on top of that I've ordered 2 litres of castrol LSD oil And on top of all that I have been on the phone to BMW Hereford to order a crank case ventilation valve and a timing chain tensioner so I'm going to be having a busy weekend this weekend not to mention recovering from the raping my pay is taking this week :shocked

Thanks for the comments guys
just a mini update the now
I had to take a run down to a place called foyers (beside loch Ness) to meet up with Chris from CR-Mtech He took up the M3 LSD and propshaft for me, had a wee chat with him, nice guy
at the moment im waiting for a gasket for the backing plate for the LSD to appear and it will be opened up, bolts checked and filled with fresh oil
in the mean time ive fitted the head lights and indicators back in, there is no need for a pic there is plenty on here already , removed the M3 back box and started stripping the bootlid so i can replace it ill start on the CCVV tomorrow and ill fit a new spring in the timing chain tensioner when it arrives, ive been getting a wee rattle when the engine is coming down the revs between 1-2.5k rpm after a wee search the timing chain tensioner has been finger pointed as one of the culprits, the other being the vanos so i'd rather change the tensioner spring first - its cheaper

hey kids ive been a busy bunny this weekend well ish ive got the M3 LSD and prop fitted up, the front of the car back on and the new bootlid fitted ive had the car out for a few drives today to give it a good shake down and make sure there is nothing untoward
so what ive discovered since having it out today the idle is all over the place, when it was first started it wouldnt idle at all, it soon got better but would cut out when doing engine braking - this has almost stopped, its still hunting a bit so ill need to have a look at the ICV and check for an air leak the exhaust is leaking i havent figured out where though, its either at the manifold or the manifold to cat section join. I'm hearing a ticking when under load - investigations to continue the power steering reservoir was spitting a bit of oil, im assuming that i may have over filled it - one more thing to check out i was also hearing a grumble from the gearbox when under load from low revs (about 2k in 3rd) this seems to have dissappeared since the gearbox heated up so i think a change of oil is in order
other than that everything seems to be alright, the odd rattle but thats the interior
i didnt get round to changing the ccvv or the chain tensioner spring, will do it this week

im back again, this time bearing pics :hihi new bootlid 328i (top) vs M3 (bottom) propshaft you cant really see it in the pic but the M3 prop is slightly thicker than the 328i prop, the guibo is thicker and the M3 propshaft has a CV joint at the end (diff side). Its covered in bubble wrap to keep the dirt out i have found the problem that was causing the rough idle too i noticed the small air hose going from the carbon cannister to the inlet manifold has come off at the manifold side and the hose from the ICV going to throttle body inleft hose had a gaping hole in it it was removed and covered in classic blue electrical tape :hihi ill be ordering a new hose from the stealers tomorrow so now das boot is idling happy at 800ish rpm cheerio

hola! ive been running the 318is as my daily for the last week and a half and near 300 miles and so far there hasnt been any major issues i had an air leak that was mentioned in an earlier post which i sorted out only for another air leak to take its place, i havent found the 2nd air leak yet :mad since fitting the S50 exhaust (what a nightmare that was :hihi) its alot deeper on idle and when the throttle is wide open the noise goes from a burble to a banshee rasp from the manifolds it sounds awesome and the M52 revs alot easier with it last weekend i changed the timing chain tensioner spring the reason being i was hearing a rattle coming down the revs i decided to do this first as the only other thing that can cause the rattle is the vanos unit and id rather replace a spring that costs a quid anyways when i compared the springs the old spring was about a coil shorter than the new spring, once fitted the rattle has quietened down the LSD seems to be holding out alright for the now im getting a small knock from the rear when taking up the power in 1st and reverse i dont think it is the diff but ill need to do further inverstigation to determine the fault today i swapped the front anti roll bar links from the standard E36 items that mount to the wishbones to the M3 items that attach to the strut they came with the AP coilovers so it would be rude not to try them out i took the car for a quick blast and it feels a bit flatter around the bends a quick pic to boot and finally ive booked the old girl in for paint pics to follow cheerio

hi guys I had last week off work and had the plans all set out to get some work done to the car Unfortunately whilst working on the car last Saturday i managed to pop my knee cap so all the best laid plans went out the window because I was laid up most of the week :mad Also we had a bit of snow too all that in one night anyway i did manage to get started on a few bits first of all the wing mirrors were stripped and the rust was taken back ill have some more pics later I also polished up the chrome grille surrounds Unfortunately they both had pitting at the top so they wouldnt do, they are being painted and eventually put up for sale to offset the cost of the new ones i'm going to order whilst all that was going on I fitted the scuttle panel with a pair of ebay special washer jets, however now that i have refitted the wiper arms ive realised the drivers side washer jet is being obstructed slightly but ill just need to adjust them to suit cheerio

hi guys just a wee update the 8" style 5s are looking worse for wear at the moment because i was a asshat and ive neglected them and when i bolted the centres in the laquer cracked around the bolts head which let water in causing that white marks on the wheels i was having a look through BFUK and saw a post saying the op used paint thinners and wire wool to remove the lacquer and the outer rim was ready for polish i was a bit skeptical but i decided to give it a try and see this was the result ill need to get the centers out and get stuck in :hihi it did take a hell of a lot of effort to get to that but it will be worth it i also got the drivers side wing mirror back together small progress but good progress

last nights progress i'm about 3/4 the way round the 1st wheel, ive given up on the paint thinners and im going at it dry going to have to get the wheels down to my mates work to remove the valves the eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that the tyres are still attached, the reason behind this is the RC009s were designed so the tyres would be removed from the rear of the rim rather than the front meaning we would have had to put the rim face down on the tyre machine this didnt bode well due to the potential damage that could occur to the outer rim from the tyre removing machine it was decided that the tyres would be popped off the bead to allow access to the edge of the rim cheerio

not really an update more of a rant
i wanted to refit the outer door handle trim and try to sort out the passenger side door lock i cracked out the tools and got stuck in full of enthusiasm everthing seemed to go wrong the day
i couldnt get the handle out because the window was in the way, this was after an hour of faffing about with the handle in the first place i dropped the window enough so i could get at the runners and remove the retaining clips i hit the switch to put the runners down so i could have more access but before i could hit the button to stop the runners were at the end of their travel and now refused to go back up. arse i then tried to remove the motor to see if i could wind the runners back by hand, refit the motor and robert is your mothers brother
no dice i just succeeded in removing the motor casing and nothing else so it looks like the whole assembly will have to come off, i'd had better find some pop rivets to top it all off the window has been smashed at some point and whoever fixed it decided it would be a great idea to sikaflex the window to its mounts so ill probably have to smash it to get the access i need for the handle and then replace it
what a bloody stromash
i was going to carry on polishing the wheels but i decided against it as something will probably go wrong
