I think you should either leave it unpainted and joey mod the headlights, or have it wrapped in the original colour leaving everyone to wonder why a (relatively) standard looking M12 is so damn quick biggrin

I just think that you need to show off the work that's gone into it. A paint job along the lines of the Zonda F would look good as above, but I wouldn't put any more paint on it than that (IMO).

It's like a master carpenter spending ages hand cutting a dovetail joint on a nice piece of furniture, and then painting over it so no one knows!

Personally I think it would look fantastic if everything up from the rear quarter crease from the ducktail to the arc of the corner splitters at the front, to the sides of the vent in the bonnet and the roof corners on that line was painted white- rather like the Zonda.

Well this has helped perk up an otherwise dull afternoon!

I'm glad I only stumbled across it today, as getting to see the (mostly!) finished item is awesome. I know having to wait for updates would drive me mad!

Kudos, look forward to seeing some videos when you've got the car running as you want it. Do you reckon you're at your 700bhp/t now?

Cheers, I'm certainly close to that figure... Engine def has loads to go and am going to push it a little further in the future.

I have M800 GTT on retention just incase... Rings quite nicely as well as I run an M800 ecu :-)... Guess we will have to see!

I've only just discovered this thread, and gone cover to cover in one sitting.. the lunatic grin has been spreading wider across my face the whole time and the involuntary whimper count is in the dozens, this is absolutely incredible work!

Just starting out on such a huge undertaking is scary enough, but to say "I thought I'd teach myself to work in carbon" and end up with these results is unreal. I know a little bit about composites and to see this sort of quality from a self-taught guy working in his garage beggars belief.

Leave the finish as it is - it looks phenomenal and totally unique. Do please take a couple of video cameras on your next track day.. biggrin

Best of luck with using this fantastic creation!

So thought a little update should be done.

I discovered what my fuel pressure issue was, one of the pumps was getting red hot on idle, so I swoped it out thinking that was the failure, the other one then got red hot, so I swoped the wiring around as I'd done that at the same time as swoping pumps, no change.... Clutching at straws I swoped this pump out as well, again no change... Pumps are located under the middle of the car.

I then dropped it on the ground and removed the fuel filter (on the rail so easy to get out and 2 min job) low and behold full fuel pressure and quiet pumps.... Filter was blocked and probably the easiest part on the car for me to swop out... What an idiot lol.

Anyhow car is now staggering, power is simply endless, the harder I drive it the more it delivers. It's all been worth spit and some... Going to lemans classic next week then a will refine the car and it's setup ready for silverstone on 8th sept.

Here are some pics of it at my wedding 2 weeks ago.... The blue car is a friends that's similar spec engine wise to mine running an M800 motec ecu as well.... This picture represents over 1300bhp and around 2100kgs :-)

A friend also played with the pic to look like scale trip cars ( I rented a 6lane scaletrix Grand Prix for the night as it was also the 24hr leman and would have been rude not to)

Stunning and congrats! Whereabouts are you staying for LMC? I'm there Friday - Monday and would love to have a drool over the car if you didn't mind? I'll bring a bib!

A friend did a short video of my car at le Mans... our camp site has a garden party with a little car show which ends in a rev off... because my car goes on track regularly it is pretty quiet compared to the ferraris and V8 monster cars that also attend so I'm always blown into the weeds... I decided things had to change and activated the advanced functions in the Motec ECU and used launch control during the rev off.

I was quite the crowd pleaser smile

Read through the whole thread today, amazing car and classy workmanship, but I am very intrigued with your carbon fibre making process, Andy. Could you expand your knowledge in this or point us out somewhere where we can read about it, perhaps step by step guide. I cannot google any worthy information for some reason. Thank you.

I'm almost sure it was this thread that told me about easy composites, they sell everything you need to get started. They also do really good tutorial videos on YouTube, The second link is the first of a three part series where they make a bonnet out of CF.

Thank you. I've seen to the first link before, and it is not much of a tutorial. The video is very good.

That is bonkers, I love the flames as it vents the excess boost (I assume its the excess boost as it hisses).

The flames are also a lot bigger than I'd thought they would be.

The flames will be from the spark cut/ retard!

(the ecu is limiting engine speed by retarding the ignition (which sends loads of heat out the exhaust which spools up the turbo) and occasionally cutting the ignition completely on some cylinders to keep the engine from overrevving)
