Thanks for asking, here are the sad facts:

(1) One of the exhaust manifolds has sheared off just above the connection to the downpipe. The noise of an unmuted Chrysler 383 makes your ears bleed!

(2) The age of the Carter four barrel carb is showing, and the car is over revving at idle (or, in fact, not idling at all). The idle screw apertures are very worn. I have another carb from an old Dodge that may fit with a bit of tweaking, or I might in due course spring for a new one imported from USA Land.

(3) There is a pesky water leak somewhere around the windscreen, and the passenger footwell is becoming a footbath.

None of this is hyper serious, but at present I am in World of Skint, so repairs are on hold.

in case it helps , if the manifold is not cast iron , but cast steel , like my astra one , I had success welding it to its turbo mount flange, so would be happy to weld yours up buckshee.
Robert

(that's if you can get it off without to much hassle .)

Soviet Union pig iron, I reckon, but thanks kindly for the offer. Looks like a bit of an arse to get off, as well.

Brrrrrr, Freezio!

Some people say that a Jensen is a cool car, but this is ridiculous:

What's this..? You mean to say the Fabboceptor doesn't reside of an evening inside a fur lined, heated palace of loveliness, with walls adorned by arty pictures of Roger Moore and Alexandra Bastedo...?

The nation demands an answer, Sir!

Old London gaff = had garage.

New country gaff = no garage.

You would expect it to be the other way around, but meh.

A friend nearby has a cosy big shed, but it's still full of lumber, despite my entreaties. Breathable waterproof cover OK ish, but it blew off in the storms owing to CBA to tie it on factor, and now I have wet cover, wet car. Arse.

Bah, shame. What would Lt.Colonel Brown have to say about it I wonder.

Might as well take the old girl out for a warm up...

I fitted an Edelbrock 1406 which ran lovely straight out of the box and comes with a great DVD showing you how to fit and adjust it I think it cost £285 plus VAT and another 10-15 quid for a kickdown linkage adaptor all delivered next day from Appleyards.

Hope things get sorted soon as your car is too nice to be shut away.

Cheers, dpp, that sounds like the Staff Solution.

I always reckon that the kick down is almost superfluous on one of these, so wafty and fabulous is the engine, but it is useful for scaring the peasants.

Minor thread creepage, but what has happened to the Strange Rover you were beating about in a while ago BV? I don't see it among the recent fleet shots.

It is poorly, and its fate is yet to be determined, but it has given good service and more than paid for itself (all five hundred quid's worth!). It may be going back to the bloke whom I bought it from.

The Fleet is now more like a Squadron, as I have sold a few of the yarmouths.

Shame. I hope it lives on somehow, those older rangers are fab bits of kit.
