Excellent reading. Well done on the constant work being done to this vehicle.

Did you get to the limits of the old chargecooler then? I'm planning out a bigger capacity system for my car at the moment but not sure which one to go for. Are the generic ebay ones any good? Which ones do you use? frozenboost seem good but then there's the hassle of importing from America.
Cheers,
Rich

This is the one I went for from Frozenboost..
http://www.frozenboost.com/product_info.php?cPath=...
600 vs 1200 potential is a no brainier and the wider spaced I/O ports allow me to have less bends in the silicones.
Just waiting on the TB to inlet adapter to be fabbed up.

Just suck up the import duty or go to pro-alloy for a quote as they will build one-offs.

Cheers, looks like frozenboost are coming out as my first choice, how long did shipping take for you? I'll be fitting it on a scooby engine in my bug like this:
the Americans seem to get good results from them.

One other thing, how do you find bleeding them? From the water port positions it looks like they will have a massive air bubble locked in them unless they had an extra air bleed at a high point, other than squeezing it in, that's my biggest concern a the moment. How did you find that?

You can see my water reservoir at the top of the pic and as long as it is the highest point in the system, bleeding is easy and just needs to be topped up on the first start.

Delivery on the CC takes about 10 days but does depend on stock and customs.
Duty was about £35 if I remember correctly.

That bay looks very busy.

I was more concerned about the volume above the inlet/outlet internal to the chargecooler, surely about half the volume will be full of air as it is a trapped high point in the system?

The 3" CC outlet pipe has been replaced for a 135 degree one since that pic, but the new mods will improve all the inlet flow.

I wasn't talking about the charged air flow, my only concern is the water part of the system, as the water inlet and outlets are about central to the volume of water internal to the chargecooler, there will be a trapped volume of air above the fittings which will drastically limit the potential of the cooler..

Ahh, ok, I see what you mean.
The CC was tipped up during priming to expel air and now the system is fully primed.
A bleed point could be added to the top of the CC but that would have to be a custom mod that isn't in my plans at the mo, but I will be monitoring temp performance.

So this is how the inlet was, with the inlet neck coming in from the bottom..

After fabbing the inlet now comes in directly to the chamber..

Off to paint now with the bigger heat exchanger.

Great reading and a fantastic build. I like the idea of building something like this for a daily drive that can run with the best street cars at the strip. What's the best quarter time you've made (and with what sort of power)?

I see that you live in Southport. Great little town where I grew up (went to Stanley High). Maybe I'll bring my Audi up there and we'll go racing up the dual carriageway to Preston wink

Best time on the strip to date is in the fours and twelves, but that was without launch control and a slipping clutch.
I will be going again with some revised parts and software on March 24th.

Both Preston and Formby bypass are quite good for a little push..
I went to Stanley as well.

Been a while since I've updated as I've tried to keep her out of the winter weather this year.
I've took some time off work to get some jobs done.
Head has been off for inspection and plugs, oil and filter change.
A larger Charge Cooler is going in..

Provent 200 has been installed and piped up..

You can see the revised SRI and throttle body installed and the headlight ballast is being relocated to allow the Charge Cooler and reservoir to be installed..

More updates to follow soon as she will be started in the next few days.

Left Stanley in 1983 (so old)...

What does launch control give you over and above having an auto and 4wd?

New chargecooler looks good! Any idea what core frozen boost use? What was you old core rated at?
