Sorry to bring up the elephant in the room but what I really want to know is what you are going to do with the arm rest holder thing from a few weeks back.

The rest of the project is amazing, please tell me you are going to sort it, it is upsetting me now smile

Rear Strut Brace
Previously during the project I had added reinforcement towers to the rear suspension turrets complete with captive fittings to mount a strut brace, and yesterday I finished fabricating the rear brace to bolt on.

I have made it in two sections so that it may be split in two, in order to allow the Sub enclosure to be removed easily.

Modification of Sub Enclosure
The sub enclosure is made fora standard Fiesta and wouldn't quite fit my car due to the suspension turret reinforcement towers, so a section of its rear had to be cut to provide the necessary clearance. The following two photos show the area removed and also the reinforcement tower which requires the clearance.

Looking inside the sub enclosure when its in position.

Next to the turret.

The enclosure had to be sealed again, so a wooden mould was made and screwed in place.

I then used Fibreglass to fill the mould.

Here's the first stage complete and the mould removed.

The second stage was to create a tunnel through the enclosure so that the whole thing could slide over the new strut brace but remain sealed. To achieve this I fabricated an Aluminium box with flanges at each end so it could be screwed into the enclosure.

Here's the tunnel in place. I used Fibreglass to secure the ends.

Completed.

The test fit confirms all is well. Next step is to cover the enclosure with black carpet.

Oh yes. It will be powder coated in satin black.

Could you have potentially made it adjustable where the split is? A threaded section rather than a bolted bar. I wonder about the functionality of a strut brace that isn't "tight". Could you also have made it into more of a complex shape that bends towards the rear seats so as not to encroach too much into your boot space?

something like this, perhaps:

The threaded bars certainly make fitting easier as the car doesn't need to be raised off of the ground first. I made my rear bar to be a tight fit between the turrets when there's no weight on the rear suspension, so once the car is lowered on its wheels the bar will be under compression. Personally, at the rear I wanted something solid and as straight as possible between the two turrets, but I will more than likely employ something adjustable in the engine bay given that it may need to be removed more regularly to allow engine maintenance. I have something CNC/billet based in mind for the front smile

For those wondering what's going to fill the hole in the boot floor, here it is:

The battery, a power distribution block, and an axillary fuse box will live in this new aluminium container.

The box and strut brace will now be blasted and powder coated.

It will be McIntosh MX5000. They have a copper chassis, separate 26bit DAC and power source. It's supposed to be one of the best sound quality CD transports around. Fingers crossed!

My favourite headunit of all time.... they are supposed to be awesome but they are hugely expensive! Someone did also once mention that as it is a US unit that radio frequencies are slightly out for UK use.

I would love one of those units myself but cannot justify the cost and even if I could I would be very concerned about it going missing as you cannot take the face off.

I don't think the sort of person who steals car stereos would take a second glance at an "old-looking" headunit like that (yes, I'm fully aware of it's price!)

Medium Wave in the USA tunes in 10khz steps and the UK tunes in 9khz steps. In FM however it will be the same. Great progress by the way I can't wait to see it finished smile

Thanks guys. I was aware of a difference with the Radio bands but you've helped me with the specifics.

I believe there is also a Japanese market version of the 5000 which came with a slightly different (better) DAC, though the price they are fetching makes the US model seem good value wobble

Incredible project. Where on earth did you find the info early-on on caliper lug spacing? Might be really useful info to library.

Thank you. The data was pulled from a Google search and sorry but I don't recall exactly what site it was on.
