Can i get a PSE fitted after market on to a 997 carrera s
Of course you can, but the factory version is fooking expensive. Plenty of other aftermarket options out there though. Search on here and you'll find plenty of discussion. But your cheapest and best option by far is to buy a car with PSE already fitted. It doesn't really add value to a used car but is a desirable option. Especially if you don't want to blow your budget.

is there much difference in the speed on the 996 s and 997 s?
No, not really and the narrow body non-s versions are slightly quicker on paper if that's important for you. But only in a school boy Top Trumps kind of way. These are all pretty quick cars, as is your M3. Personally I prefer the rear engine layout of the 911 over the front engined M3. Traction out of low speed corners has always been a 911 strength.

I believe that's also true of the m3?

I had an E92 M3. Absolutely loved it, wonderful car. I now have a 997 GTS and I would say that it's a tiny bit quicker, a lot more special to sit in, better driving position, has infinitely better feedback, much better controls (weights are perfect), far better brakes and handling is also better.

M3 is actually faster past 6,000RPM (where it goes ballistic) but due to less torque and more mass I reckon is marginally slower than my car overall. I also reckon that the M3 sounds better past this point when its engine is simply screaming!

So GTS is definitely better than an E92 M3 - having said that, so it should be it costs a lot more. 997.1 would have a number of things that I think would be better than E92 M3 but you need to try one first - the last thing you want is to buy one and then think it's not quite right for me!

Didn't find it that much faster compared to mine, soundwise PSE is highly recommended.

Hi Cal. How are you? readit Not faster than mine either. What I was saying is that there is a point past about 6,000RPM where the M3 is unbelievably quick. Of course by this point you'd be some way ahead already in a 911 wink

SAE - thats the US measurement and rounded up 1 for the american audience presumably !!

German measure is DIN (ps) and this is what Euro brochures quote in, i.e. 420hp (DIN) which translates to 414.25hp SAE

Not unless you're also amenable to a pair of freshly enbalmed testes yikes mrs would have them off me in no time if I sold it next year! No I'll have to keep it for at least 3 years maybe 5? Not that I'm too bothered about that though wink nice problem to have.

Nice link. Thanks.

Interesting stuff that. I would have expected the M3 to be quite a bit quicker than a Carrera. I don't know many of the tracks named there, but there's not much in it either way for the most part.

I wonder what it is about Laguna that gives the M3 a 7+ second lap advantage though.

OP, how about going somewhere like Scuderia Systems and getting a Tubi exhaust for your M3? It might make it sound nicer, improve the driving experience at lower speeds, and overall have a lower outlay. You can trade up to a better 911 later on when it is more affordable.

I have a Tubi Rumore on my M5 which sounds very throaty V8 at low revs with an italianate wail at high revs without sounding like 'Max Power' either.

Whats the estimated cost? and will it decrease the value of the car over time? insurance?

GT3 is over my budget tbh.
£28k is about it. I'm interested in a 997 s but not sure what options i'd have to have on it to make it better/quickly/louder than the m3.
My old 997 C2S is up for sale with Mr911 for 29k. It was a superb car & well worth a look - at that price point it's a bargain. (although make make sure you read my 'ive sold it' thread so you know what to look for.)
