Congratulations Guy on what sounds like an incredible GT2,

I think though that you will have us on the brunters straight as the lightweight nature of the GT2 in comparison to the R turbo will give quite a bit of an advantage in acceleration.

Glad you had such a great time, and looking forward hugely to seeing the car!

best wishes

Why are you moaning , is it because you drive what you consider to be be the absolute best ( debatable) and untouchable so therefore above the law ? Saw a recent gt2 for sale at Colchester in the mid eighties, cost 124k new .......? Fractions of a second quicker than a gt3 , whats so special..?

I don't think the car Guy drives makes a bit of difference. The Belgique government (together with French, Spanish etc) have just woken upto the the idea of fleecing motorists. Why shouldn't motorists who have in the past driven many miles on European motorways etc be pissed off they are no longer allowed to make reasonable progress when safe. It maybe the law but it doesn't mean we as motorists have to lie down and agree with it. Same thinking applies to the overzealous scamera enforcement we are being persecuted with in the UK.

IMHO the 996GT2 may not be the best value 911 in the range but it is the best purist drivers car they make and I include the GT3RS in my thinking.

Just a touch of the devils advocate in my post, thanks for enlightening me, went out to post a letter on my push bike this afternoon, met a buddy on the way back, drunk some excellent chilled Merlot Rose and disscussed relocation to the Mid-Pyrenees ,hub of Europe , gate way to anywhere, then read your post Daz.....ta.

Well that`s it for me, I`m on the wagon, never touch another drop.No wonder no-one ever contacts me from friends reunted. Sorry Guy , reading my post of last night this morning is only slightly embarrasing.

Tree hugging , cave dwelling , lentill eating , scamera admiring Mikey

No problem, I was reading your post and wondering what reaction you would expect from someone stopped and fined the equivalent of £100 for doing 90mph on a road thats straighter, drier and emptier than any UK Motorway - delight, happiness, esctascy perhaps?

Adam,

Ruf were holding their 25th Annual Trackday at the Hockenheimring and there were about 50 cars there, mainly Porsche/Rufs, but also some Lambos and Ferraris.

The Blue RTurbo was being driven by a very skilled driver, who is an F3 driver I believe and he overcooked it into a fast corner, the car spun and went into a high concrete wall alongside the track.

The car was badly damaged, although it was not possible to see the full extent as it was on the other side from that visible from the grandstands. The wheels were smashed clean off on one side, and I think it lost the suspension as well. They also collected a lot of small parts from the track. It would have been wrecked down the whole side I guess. It was loaded into a covered trailer on the track, so I never saw the damage in detail. Alois/Estonia took it well and said it was the first time it had happened in 25years, but was to be expected at some time.

I didn't feel it was appropriate to take a photo of the wrecked car, so I didn't.

Also two GT3s hit each other on the circuit under braking. The standard of driving was very different to UK Track Days, it was very aggressive, almost like a race. I was offered the chance to drive my car on the track, but I declined.

I do have some other photos from the trip, but I just need to get round to sorting them out.

Guy thank you for the info, I believe that the F3 driver could be last years champion. So obviously this guy knows what hes doing, frightening to think that if it could happen to this chap.

That is a real shame about that Blue R turbo, a really beautiful car,

all the best
