Are you really serious?
This:
makes this:
look dated, fat, bloated, ill-proportioned, contrived, designed-by-committee-that-never-met, etc. etc.
The original 996 was a beautiful, minimalist, svelte, compact, visionary, elegant, subtle, sexy and appealing design - everything the 991 isn't and never will be. Like Art Deco vs. Brutalism.
Wow! Without a doubt the most glowing endorsement of the 996 I've ever heard. Ever. This:

I'll take the 991 over the weak looking, goggle eyed munter thanks

In fact I have never seen a single car in my entire life that looked any good in grey. Some people say a DB9 or a Vantage looks good in Grey but I reckon those people are missing most of their right hemisphere.
At first, I thought that this was a crazy statement. But, I have had time to reflect and whilst I cant agree that a car never looked good in grey, I cant think of one car that looks 'best' in grey. A challenge for PH'ers??I hope bright colours are coming back and this grey country needs it!
Buying a dull colour on a 911 'for resale' is very sad.

You're wrong, see above.

As for the car, everyone will love the 991 in time ... it just takes a few months for the eye to become accumstomed and one's intial resistance to be broken down. I have seen this over and over again and you all should know better now. The same thing happened when my mum got her first datsun 120Y after a string of Hillman Imps. Took an age to get used to the strange japanese car but once we did, we couldn't look at another IMP again.
Everyone ? That's An opinionated/misguided statement even by your standards J ! ! I'd suggest this won't be the case with the 991. To many, the 911 has been getting excessively larger and bulkier over the past thirteen years. There comes a point when the DNA of the original gets lost or so diluted that it ceases to be perceived as a 911, some would say that happened when Porsche went from the 993 to the 996, this latest iteration of the 911 would appear to have crossed the rubicon for many 911 fans.

I remember when bangle first came out with the 7 series and the Z4 and his flame surfacing was something totally new, the like of which no one had ever seen ... there was massive resistance to it and folk all over the internet hated his style
I still do the Z4 with its saggy sills/midriff and awkward rear three quarter styling just doesn't do it for me. Worse still, his aggressive and supposedly innovative flame surfacing has been watered down over the years and left us with cars like the E90 M3 which looks about as un-MCar like as they could. For comfirmation see your comments below about his designs looking humdrum.

A few years on though and the original bangle designs actually seem pretty humdrum and as for flame surfacing, sudden direction changes and creases in the middle of large panels, ... well you see that even on a basic Perouda/Ssangyong ! Bangle knew exactly what he was doing and he predicted the market long before folk like us did. The 991 will be great I think. Of course you have to see it in the flesh as well, pictures mean nothing.
And I think you're wrong And the fact that you think Perouda and Ssangyong using such styling cues in some way validates them, shows just how misguided your thought processes are ! jackal said:
Just a shame its reportedly so non-911-ish. If its not going to make you feel alive, dick around underneath you, throw you off the road, feel completely chock full of unwanted fidegting, arse end heavy and ponderous and requiring constant attention .... well, you may as well plump for the extra parcticality and get a CayenneCayman instead.

They look great slippydiff but its not the grey colour that does it.
In my view, those examples look much better in alternative colours.

There is no other colour I'd have 997 GT2 in.
Likewise I'd be very tempted by a grey 997 GT3 RS Gen 2 (retain the red wheels and logos on the rear quarter and front wing, but lose the chequers down the sides and the painted grill in the front bumper)
The 996 Turbo I briefly owned was Seal grey and looked better than silver or black. Recently there was a Seal grey pre-facelift 996 C4 with aerokit for sale in the classifieds, it looked so much better than the equivalent Artic example.
All IMVHO obviously

I would have a GT2 in white and a GT2RS in red. Grey justs fades into the background. What is it about bright colours that you dont like? There is no other colour I'd have 997 GT2 in.
