Just take the nearest thing (like a 3.4) and assess the likely % loss, and if the Spyder performs better, that's a bonus.
well done nickfrog, it appears you're a genius amongst mere mortals on this thread.

I think what you will find that there are several specialists including us who do NA upgrades but they tend to be engine build projects e.g 3.8, RSR stuff.
The market in the UK is limited for simple bolt on type solutions. That is why we teamed up with cargraphic to be able to offer upgrades for NA - working with RS Tuning etc.
We work with 911tuning and Todd k at protomotive and now RSS so the USA market is well known to us.
There is a lot that goes on in the USA tuning market that is not public knowledge
We aim to provide NA car with alternatives
Having just spent 20k on creating the quickest k16 car i think some of us are committed to improving things

Great view of 997 pricing there.

But when we're talking about luxury cars, the issue of money / ambition related to earnings will come up? It's fine if that's not what motivates you, plenty of people I know are far more into having a happy family life and would prefer to work 35hrs a week on £20k than 70hrs a week on £100k.

However, part of you wants a Porsche / Ferrari / other posh metal because it's exclusive and relatively hard to obtain. It's the stuff we had on our bedroom walls when we were teenagers. To be honest....you'll get a much purer driving experience from an old Elise or Caterham.....both of which can be had for under £10k with nearly zero depreciation. People don't want them as much however as they're not as aspirational. They're not status symbols that'll make the neighbours jealous.

As much as it's an ugly thing to say, a large part of the reason people buy exclusive cars is because they're perceived to be expensive and exclusive. That's why I always get annoyed with people hoping for depreciation - aside from being mean spirited, it's also counter productive. The reason these cars are desirable is in part because they're expensive. The cheaper they get the less people aspire to them, imo.
Talk for yourself mate, but I think you are sadly wrong if you think most people want luxury cars in order to show off how successful they have been, which is effectively what you are saying.

I am at the polar opposite side of your thinking, I wish Porsches, Ferraris, Astons et al were affordable enough for every last person to be able to enjoy them.
Would that not devalue an otherwise exclusive product? Why would anyone bother to try and get rich?. There has to be prizes in life. What you are suggesting is socialism. Ie something for nothing, as long as someone else takes the hit.

To work hard and earn a good living and, to enjoy the nice things in life whatever they maybe to you is all well and good and is free from issue in my eyes. To conclude that you are somehow elevated above other's because of the car you drive, and to seek attention through such thoughts is i find sad in the extreme. Deary me, some folk must be very very insecure in life to think in such a way, then to go one step further and conclude it's the norm in other's. As the previous guy said, please speak for yourself lad.!.scratchchin

I'm with markcoznottz on this one - life would be meaningless if everything was just given to everyone on a plate.

Depends how you define it though does it not ? What's important ? That you eat well, or that you are seen to eat well ?

They're equally important, the perception of success generates further success.

Maybe we should just resurrect threads on a periodic basis and the discussion could carry on as if never interrupted.

My top 'Groundhog Day' threads, not in rank order:

Aren't these cars very expensive to run, especially when DEPRECIATION is taken into account?

I'm a Porsche driver and some unwashed chap was disrespectful to me and I want to know how to arrange to have him flogged.

What options are essential? (Answer: all the ones on my car, none of the ones on your car and by the way mine is the nicest colour.)

I'm hoping to get onto the Olympic team for prevarication and procrastination, could you help me make up my mind as to how I make a decision about how to spend my own money.

Porsche engines leak oil and blow up - would it be a good idea to have a warranty?

Money: I have lots/a little/borrowed some; my way of doing financial things is right, anyone who disagrees is an idiot.

You have forgotten;

Manual gearboxes are for people with beards & sandals who think they are awesome drivers that are faster than computers and bang on about 'feel' - Autos are for people who have limited driving capability and co-ordination problems (Goes well with lady park).

Air cooled are slow, old, rubbish and noisy vs Water cooled are the work of the devil himself and arent actually a 'real' Porsche.

Cabriolets are for hairdressers with blonde hair called Anthony and Coupes are for ugly people that bore everyone about chassis stiffness.

biggrin Any more?

Absolutely. Go ahead and and get it and if the worst comes to the worst you can always post on here and complain about how you've bought a dog and what you can do about it!!

What about "Now I've upgraded to a 911 TT, my previous ordinary Porsche that I used to rave about when I owned it is now as slow as a Nissan Micra and extremely dull"

or about "Boxsters and Caymans are okay cars, but they will never be a 911"
