Great day, quieter than normal and I think most drivers were slower as well - I am quite slow (1:32-1:35 sec in the Boxster S) and seemed to be overtaking many yesterday. I loved the weather - most of it dry and then wet at the end for a change. At the end I managed my 1st 360 degree spin at the old hairpin, otherwise the car seemed very controllable (and the driver in control;)).

Great day. Thanks to Chris for the pax laps and for showing me what a Cayman con really do. Always good to chat with some of the old hands and also to meet some new people. Hope the guy in the Caterham isn't too buised, it sounded bad and there was a hell of a sprint to the citrcuit viewing area to make sure he ws OK.
First time on track for the Cayman, it won't be the last, it really got me out of trouble a few times.
Left after the first rain shower but big thanks to Book-a-Track for extending the morning session to make the most of the weather. Also a big thanks to Steve for organising the day and arranging the fine weather.

Firstly a huge thanks to Steve for organising the day and congrats to BAT for delaying lunch to provide more dry runs. Couldn't believe the Silverstone weather compared to what we had at the same time! This was my second track day and first time at Donington and what a circuit. I got some video which I'll try and upload (all new to me) which showed 1:30 to 1:40 lap times which seemed quick to me.. Until I read Chris's comments! I'd best get more practice in! Thanks to all for a great day and excellent manners on (and off) the track.

Yesterday was the best track day I've done, lots of awesome cars present, but the track was always very quiet and manners were excellent. I spotted you in your Boxster S, looked nice, I was the yellow Carrera S flying around. My dry times were 1:23-1:28 region and I was quite chuffed with how well my car handled in the wet when it hammered it down in the afternoon. I was doing 1:38-1:41 in the wet taking it very easy and safely, never left the track once, had a few power oversteer moments though, but the communication from the car in the wet was simply sublime.

Mike Don't presume that you're aiming for uniform temps across the tread on those tyres - speak to Protyre for more info specifically but also consider that the inside will have more tread shuffle (due to the asymetric pattern), creating heat and on straights the outside of the tyre won't be in (full) contact with the track (and at Doni you'll be measuring just after a long straight).

Thanks Steve for a fab day. Came expecting rain, wore out what was left of my road tyres in the morning and there was so little left when it rained, I wasn't brave enough to give it try. Maybe it was the crump bang of the Bat Caterham. It happens so easily --- no shame, just a bill to pay My pic of the best car of the day goes to ... Paul, --- also from the few pics I took, the fastest car I photographed (Taken from the time signature on each frame over 7 laps --- one slower and then only three seconds between the rest ! Class.)

He'd intended to bring his 964 targa out but decided to leave that one at home because of the potential monsoons and bring the 997 turbo instead. Not a bad back up car to have on standby!

Thanks to Steve B for the day and all at Bookatrac Yes it was my Turbo and it was my first ever proper track day. The day was very good and even better following my 2 tuition sessions, where learning the correct lines and braking enhanced the enjoyment no end, but I did realise I need a lot more track time to learn the car to brake and drive through the corners smoother, the straight in the Turbo was fantastic, pure smiles. I was amazed how courteous the majority of drivers were when both being and overtaking. Piks

sportsandclassic said: Rear brakes very noisy and felt as if the pads had smeared discs so it did not have a smooth application. Seems as good a time as any to reiterate that race brake pads require very specific bedding in. Most manufacturers will have a procedure, pagids is readily available. Don't do it and instead just run the pads and you can kiss goodbye to any decent braking and life along with possibly your rotors too. They can't take any heat prior to being squared up and then cured/primed/conditioned. If they see it they smear the discs (ruining them if you can't clean it off, just braking won't ever clear it off the discs, you need to physically remove it ) and any hope of the pad performing properly is gone. There's significant benefits to be had from running race parts over oem but they require attention versus oem parts which are designed to be consumer friendly

Well it was a great day so thanks Steve and thanks to BaT. I think the only way I would have enjoyed it more had it been in somebody elses car!
Did 2 warm-up and 2 cool-down laps each time and found the tyres would only allow 2 or 3 laps in between so i think the car is ok. I'm going to replace the pads as suggested as they are about 50% now.
I got passed most of the time as I was taking it quite easy, although as the confidence built up I drove it a bit harder. had a guess of the lines and wasn't too far off when i went out with instructor. But even in 4th gear it was much quicker laps!! But again tyres were limiting factor.
I got black flagged for noise btw. The clocked me over three laps at just over 98dB, bah. It was just as confidence was growing and I was nailing it past the noise meters. Put in the baffles and backed off a bit so had no more problem.
Looking forward to doing another one, but hopefully with higher roise limits or even better in somebody elses car so the fun is not as restricted!!
