The car would have to be pristine with a big file to get £9k on a private sale without the cat D.

The things to look out for are as above. None of that stuff done? Then buy in the knowledge that some of that is coming your way. 'Full history' is nice but ultimately it is just service history and doesn't necessarily mean that non-service parts are replaced. It's not Porsche specific but things unfortunately fail and wear out with age. I've found compared to other regular cars suspension parts are critical as whilst you can drive round it the feel and drive is drastically affected, just what you want in a precise sports car where you feel everything compared to a saloon!

My first porsche was a cat d boxster. I aqua planed on the motorway after having it 3 weeks. It was almost a right off. The porsche approved garage which fixed it explained the list of stuff which they had fixed over and above what I had done. It was obvious that the reason I aqua planed in the first place was because half the suspension arms were bent.

If you're saving a grand then why bother - look elsewhere.

Never been the greatest 996 fan but when this came along I put prejudice to one side and realised they are utter bargains. The looks are growing on me... Even the lights! It's no 997 but black with black interior flatters it far more than most colours...

I went higher miles, impeccable history. I've stopped looking so I don't get buyers remorse! I'm spending a lot of cash on super unleaded and can't escape what value this car is. Keep looking they're exceptional value for money and as you're experiencing he good ones go quickly. I missed out on a few so set aside a weekend to get the deed done and it was the least likely advert I ended up buying!

Good luck!

I think I could be tempted with a 2wd. 4wd is just a bit audi quattro.

I bought one and love it. It steers beautifully.

The Carrera (2wd) is the one that has the "purest" driving experience, they say.

Only 5% to front wheels except when you need it... And yes, I've had more fun in winter in a Quattro than any car I've had! I'll stick winters on it and it will be unstoppable! Bought it on condition rather than anything else and yes maybe a C2 is purer but this came along and was in such great condition...

Don't get me wrong. It looks ace and I'd like one. But I still think I'd need to go for the 2 just for the thrill factor. Also you do know that Men who drive the 4wd apparently have much curlier pubic hair than the 2wd fellas.

Missed this thread, so i thought i would revivie.
I have a real hankering for a poverty Boxster - I have up to 35k to spend. Happy to have a 2.5, but would love a 3.2!!

Im really tired of fake adverts on autotrader - does anyone know of any good cars for sale?

£35k on a POVERTY Boxster? Do I need a whoosh parrot or something?

I've had several Porsches over the years, and although I love the 'event' of driving the older air cooled cars, the value for money that the 996 offers is hard to ignore! As I enjoy track driving on the odd occasion the opportunity to build a track ready 911 for reasonable money was too good to turn down!

A few more pics

Certainly not 'poverty pork' anymore!!

Good luck with the sale - car looks great!

Joined the club last weekend. 2000 W reg Silver Boxster 2.7 with 73k for £4500. Not a full service history but a fair few receipts, and a year's MOT with no advisories. Worth the punt I feel, especially after running an E92 M3.

Jobs to be done - air con not working (not that fussed but will get it sorted), full service & sort out the mis-matched rubber before autumn/winter. Reasonably handy with the spanners so aiming to do all of this myself.
