Interesting. What, erm, 'shape' and size are you out of interest?
5ft 9, 75kgs.

I find the wings on the backrest push your shoulders forward and aren't very comfortable

Whether you think the 986 sports seats are any good is all a matter of subjectivity and what you are used to. They are better than any sports seats I have tried from more mainstream cars like the later BMWs/Mercs/Audis. But sure they don't hold you in like the standard buckets in something like a new Civic Type R or newish hot Megane. They're not intended as buckets though, but you could spec that option at the time if you wanted.

I'll not hold my breath then. Been to see one this afternoon, seemed mechanically strong but generally unloved, every body panel marked, paint fked, wheels fked, cheap but not cheap enough given how many cars I've bought for much much less in much nicer condition, Porsche or not.

My reference point is cars from 2005-2013 which post date the 986 seat design some 10+ years. Sure in the top end latest M, RS etc you can get some funky bucket like seats but that's not really an apples with apples comparison as the 986 sports seats are much older and aren't even the 'top' ones in the range.

No that it matters but I think the sports seats are ok. Decent enough when compared with the seats above I mention and try and in comparison with the sports seats I've tried in 996/964. Sure they can hold you in a bit more like a bucket but for what the car was designed for and the buyer it was pitched at I think they do the job. I think many on here are at one end of the spectrum in what they want from the car vs what the design brief for Mr Average is hence the posts on mods etc.

I found the 986 sports seats to be way too narrow, and the normal ones were fine for journeys of less than an hour. Even then they weren't supportive enough.

I'd read that he 987/997 seats are a direct fit to the 986, and my friend's 997 was a different level of comfort.

So these were purchased:

All that was needed to make the electrics work were some bullet connectors for the power cables on the seats and the 986 loom.

And here they are:

(Girlfriend hated both the normal and sports 986 seats!)

They are also height adjustable, and sit slightly lower at the lowest setting, giving a much better driving position.

Best upgrade I've done!

Ok. On another thread we were discussing the 981 6 pot engine being available in the 987. Is it simply the 987.2 which has the 981 engine?

£4100. '02 2.7 with basic spec but in lovely condition. Took a while to come round to the slightly girly colour (Orient red?!) but I just couldn't pass. High miles, Great private seller, a fellow engineer, loads of history, sent me tonnes of info, drives spot on, clutch and rms done, new top with glass, beautifully smooth paint, Pilot sports all round etc, very honest. Fetch it this week.

It was only when I drove this one that I realized how awful the clutch was in every other one I'd driven before.

The clutch is like a lot of the suspension arms. It's rare to get a terminal failure and it will soldier on but drive st. You don't realise until you drive a sorted car.

A friend had a 2003 for 10 months last year. I found the clutch a bit stiff but it was nowhere near as bad as the brake pedal which just felt like mush. He had new fluid and pads after my rant but it still felt poor to me. Do all the older cars do this or is this an indicator for further work required?

A good fluid bleed, good pads and the pedal should feel decent. If it doesn't then something is still amiss maybe caliper seals or guides.

brake pedal feel on these cars is very much affected by brake pad & disc state (for example corroded inner faces) + also I suspect, front damper performance. When it's good, it's excellent. It can feel very wooden & unresponsive.

Well I love it so far. Very much work in progress, and there's loads of things to do to improve it, but its a great start so far. Feels great on the road, and given how thats with mainly 124k mile old suspension, I cant wait to see how good it is when its all new! Colour is growing one me too.

Struggling to get any interest selling my 99 2.5 with 113k, all the normal issues have been fixed and it's had a lot spent on it this year. It's up at £4,250, recon it's too much?

I'm having strong thoughts (again) of buying a cheap 986. Just can't help but think they look fantastic. No idea where I'd even keep it!

Your profile lists your location as Scotland - that will be a factor (for some reason Pork values have always seemed to be weaker in Scotland whenever I have trawled the classifieds over the years). If it is a tidy one with no issues and isn't Ocean Jade/Nephrite Green then I'd fully expect you to be getting bids in the region of £4k down in the South.
