I've just bought some poverty Pork…

People are paying more than 10k for 986's.
Next door neiguhbour paid lot more than that, the dealer he bought from reckons he can't get hold of them quick enough and has a lot advertised for 10-15k.
Nothing particulary more special than the one linked up there either, 04 facelift, 40odd k, very tidy but not unuaual.

While we're on a slight 'not quite so poverty' Pork tangent, is there a prize for the most expensive 2.5 986?

Hardtop too. I can't quite decide if the 986 I am only thinking about buying needs one.http://www.parkwayspecialistcars.co.uk/stocklist/p...
Worth a punt?

"porsche 911
carrera 2
996
75000 miles
with service history
it has
18" alloys
xenon head lights
sun roof
switchable exhaust
sat nav
soundpack
car is midnight blue with metropole full leather interior
car runs and drives for loading purpose only
the engine is mixing water and oil suspected head gasket or cylinder liner.
would make a ideal track car once engines sorted
it was a cat c in 2010"
Few nice toys on it - PSE for example...

I think I would be thinking about how much a sorted one is? And they are not that much, add tyres, engine work, and a few other things and your probably up to the price of a good non cat C. Car with all the work done.
Utility would be different if 996s were priced at 20k+ but they aren't at the moment ..

Wow, it is a quandary isn't it!
There is no real way of "home spannering" these engines for the likely faults that cause the oil and water to mix, even if you are usually fairly hardcore at this stuff. On the other hand, if you already have a 996 with a peachy engine but the car has suffered from a shunt, fire/flood damage then this may tempt you. But, if you are going that route, would you want a Cat C car for the swap?
A lot of skewed man maths, but for someone and at the right price point I am sure this works.

Good! I like a bit of a debate!

This seems cheap? 04 plate - nice spec - low miles - FPSH - good MOT history.
Crap generic ad, but i'd have expected 22k+ for similar age/milage cars?

That Cat C 996 is a race car donor if ever there was one, the fact its still sat around at £6k tells you something about how much those builders/preparers tend to pay for these things. To put into perspective one outfit I know of was paying only a touch more than that for fully working 996 donors and I kid you not but £2k to £3K for fully running 968s when they were building those.
The C4S looks too cheap if you know what I mean.

hmmmm.. earlier 996 c2 manual with dual rows, only 54k miles?
