I've just bought some poverty Pork…

I really like this. There is no "5" in front of the price, but still looks quite crisp imho (and no A.C., which is nice)

this.Lovely, lovely carb though. Wheels easy to change, albeit not with the most fabulous range off-the-shelf choices. Fixable.
I may draw ire and say I'd actually like an interior that looks slightly less inviting of stains on what would be a DD, but am not advocating the traditional "coal-pit at midnight" scheme favoured by most buyers.
I'm guess that low to mid twenties is near bottom for sensible mileage Gen II 2.9s? Ouch. Would love one but twenty-five bags is currently a stretch.
/works more over time
/remembers he gets no extra coin for that
/goes home and has a beer instead

Any update with your situation DM?
All kinds of fun. See here:Mainly in super slow-mo as it's all via second class post for them with a court system that needs a week to action even the simplest things. Currently, I've responded to an order by the court for a clarification of my intentions with regard to adding an extra defendant. Irony being the main currency of this little drama (and life in general in fact), I'm currently awaiting a response to my request for a clarification of the judge's order for clarification. Yes, you read that right. And you no, you couldn't write this wrong. Unlike the judge. Confused? I should have an update in about 7-8 days as that's how far behind they are. Going backwards from there it would seem. I think it'll be spring again before this gets sorted...
On topic - predictably, I'm with cmoose on the centre console delete. Totally FTW imo. A/C useful but not a deal breaker on the right car. Climate I'm not bothered about as I am not a limo driver.
Would really love a bork-free (i.e. Gen 2) Cayman. Big or "small" engine. But the 986 still wins the "own and use me without perennial fear of financial armageddon / terminal lack of long term liquidity" imo, which is not to say its a ford fiesta to run but it's certainly more a realistic ownership prospect for those with other commitments and/or an urge to mod. At least at this stage of the depreciation curve. Like moose, I think Caymans will never meaningfully dip below ~£10k for old and leggier and/or tattier examples. But I do covet one now more than before. Potentially more attainable than an early Evora / Exige S too...

On subject of A/C / Climate -
Mine doesn't have it.
So no horrid 1996 'beep beep' panel in the middle (that all appear to be half knackered with bleeding LCD). Just some nice tactile rotary knobs.
No grotty leaking condensers in front of my rads - meaning I can see in them and they don't have a crusty build up of crud making them rot.
And it weighs less.
So it does have its benefits. I don't miss it.

My oldie 986 does not have AC too. It's much better, no A/C maintenance lol (people spends hundreds of pounds for A/C maintenance) and cooling works much better. My other car has a great A/C system but I never use it, like some very few unlucky people I'm quite sensitive to A/C immediately gives me horrible stiff neck or sneezing
The actual missing part on the 986 dash I think is oil temperature gauge. There are few people done this by using V/W audi gauges with 996 senders, I'm planning to install the gauge on the empty (useless) CD-tray area as well!

No aspersions towards lack of AC and / or centre console. I just feel £5k is top end money for a 2.5 regardless of whether those options were ticked or not. For £7k, I'd be looking at other options...
For those that have replaced the coffin arms and tuning forks on the front, did you reuse the original nuts and bolts?
Both coffin arms were replaced about 30k miles ago. The NSF was then replaced again circa 4k ago. The OSF coffin arm has a worn ball joint and the NSF tuning fork is knocking. Don't like mismatched components, so going the whole hog and replacing both front coffin arms, tuning forks and track rods with Meyle / TRW items.
Just unsure if I need new nuts / bolts or if the current ones are likely to be seized. Similar with the eccentric bolts on the rear as I'll be getting a full geometry setup. Can't see evidence of the rear axle having had parts replaced over the 114k miles the car has done, but all components seem in good condition.
Already spent nearly £400 on these parts; Nuts and bolts don't seem to be particularly cheap...
