Not ANOTHER early(ish) Arctic 996C2 biggrin (he says, having a '98 C2, himself).

Welcome to the club. Good fun to drive isn't it?

Only managed the trip home and the spirited 45 mins when I took the pictures above. Now stuck working in tel aviv. It's coming straight out of the garage Friday morning if it's not raining. hehe

Rain or shine man. Even in the wet it will have more grip than you can imagine. Mine is visiting a specialist for a check over. Has been there longer than it has been with me.

Yep - don't worry about a little water, with the weight over the axle it'll grip far better than you expect.

Get the right tyres, and the right geo, and the grip is supernatural.

I bought one in January too!

Oct 1997 996 C2
Arctic Silver with black interior

Had top mounts changed and a service after ppi.

Changed battery and headlight bulbs as first jobs.
Two bolster seats in the back.

Not had much of a chance to drive it yet and have a list of jobs to deal with:

Aircon pipes
Brake pipes
Wind noise from drivers window
Steering vibration
Alignment
Sunroof seal

All good fun!

Pretty similar spec to mine, shame it doesn't have sports seats. Mine had been sat since August last year, it is kept in a warm garage and ran and moved on a regular basis but sadly not used as much as I would like. The last main use it had was to Lake Garda last May via Austia, Munich, Stuttgart, Reims. Took it for its MOT last week and passed with no advisories, mileage is currently 67k. Previous owner was a doctor, I should sell it really but everytime I do take it for a little drive I cant bear to let it go for such little money! I had a full clutch kit fitted, a new IMS bearing and a major service done a few years back with little mileage since. (not the best picture sadly)

How did you find doing that sort of mileage/journey in it ? I've got a 10 year old Cayman and I'm looking at doing similar this summer over 10 days.

I'm not too keen on the standard seats for extended periods of time. They are just not comfy. I drove to Italy in my 997 with sports seats and got on with that much better.

The drive was okay, we didn't get too tired, isn't that far if you spread it out over a few weeks and we had a lovely 3 nights on Garda then came back via Switzerland. I agree with the sport seats, they were comfortable. Had a coil pack fail on the way back and one of the best things I ever did was take out the top level cover with the RAC. They recovered the vehicle, paid all the motorway fee's, gave me a hire car, put me up on a hotel for 2 nights in Nancy and then paid for my taxi to the garage to collect the Porsche. I was annoyed with myself as I knew the coil packs were original and meant to pop a spare in the boot but didn't. French 'duty of care' meant all 8 had to be replaced at a cost of 800 euro's. Never mind smash

8 cool packs must be the old Flat Eight engine wink

I've done a 2k+ hoon in Europe since 2012. In the seat basically 9-5 with a lunch and fuel stops. Found the hardback sports seats fine for comfort but not so good for actually holding you in for very quick driving.

We drove ours from York to Avignon. No problem with comfort. Cool cars those 986!

I know the feeling. Sometimes car browsing is dangerous. Have a plan. Know what you want before you start looking.
