I recently sold my Cayenne Tiptronic S (full Tequipment body-kit & quad exhausts) with 163K miles on the clock. If they are maintained properly they can run to mega mileages. I know of US owners with over 300K miles on original engines, transmissions etc.

I had my car serviced every year, rather than the 2 year intervals that Porsche recommends. I think most US owners service annually too. The known issues with Cayennes are the central prop shaft requiring replacement (£800) from Porsche specialists, and coolant pipes (£1200).

If the vehicle has had the original plastic coolant pipes replaced with the aluminium version, these should last the lifetime of the vehicle.

Great car, and I still miss it having owned it for nearly 7 years.

It would definitely qualify as "Poverty Pork" having been sold for less than £7000....

I've always ignored cayennes in comparison to defender or mercs. The prices seem quite reasonable to be honest, and the upgrades that needed for a stress-free drive not much?

First gen Cayenne's drive well compared to what was around at the time. I've never driven the later models though as I'd left Porsche before they were launched. An S or a Turbo is a far nicer steer than a RR. Just avoid the manual S, manuals really don't suit the SUV drive

The styling is growing on me to be honest, the interior is a lovely place to be & everyone remarks on A. how nice it is & B. at 88K how well it has worn, better than my 986 did.
Not sure what you mean about pseudo sportiness, for a 4 x 4 it is bloody quick & drives well. I know too many people with unreliable LR products so that didn't figure on the radar. The only other choice we looked at was a Lexus RX400 which I liked & the wife absolutely hated.
Quite a few TIPEC members have seen & sat in mine & are now having thoughts of getting one.

I'm talking about the first gen Cayenne which is head and shoulders about a RR of the same era. I've not driven the latest RR or Cayenne

Admittedly I've not spent any real wheel time in any Cayenne but I've had a P38, L322 and RRS in 3.6 and 2.7 guise. For comfort and luxury they are hard to beat. Who drives these sorts of things on the rails anyway. Superb in bad weather conditions and pretty capable off road too.

Sorry, but I agree with Fastbug.... I was originally going to buy a Range Rover, however after driving a Cayenne S I quickly changed my mind.

I have a friend who bought a RR Sport TDV8 HST at the same time I purchased my Cayenne. He kept it 9 months, with it being off the road having various repairs at the Dealer for 6 weeks of that time. When I sold it for him, he had lost the same in depreciation over the 9 months, that I had paid for my car. I sold it for £2500 above the best offer he had received from any Dealer he had offered it to.

I have another friend who has had two Range Rovers over the period I had my Cayenne, he too may be unlucky but he has spent £13K on servicing and repairs between the 2 cars in 6 years....

Enough of the Cayenne chat as I haven't introduced myself yet biggrin

My poverty Pork

Only bought it December and really liking it. I sold new and used Porsche 2003 to 2005ish so very familiar with that era, hence my knowledge of the first gen Cayenne (sadly) laugh

It's my second Porsche (I had a tiny mileage 924), before that I had a 1962 Beetle with just over 200bhp

If I was a betting man I'd say that cab has had some poor repair work for it to rust like that

Nope standard places unfortunately. The lock area was a common warranty repair when they were new. I know of a few that have surface rust in the window edges as well. But looks lovely overall & the Hartech rebuild is peace of mind..

Anyone could tackle the body work repairs unlike the oily bits which need a specialist like Hartech and are now hopefully sorted.

The engine rebuild was 6k. Is that the going rate for a full rebuild? I'm used to looking the bills from bore scoring which vary from 6k upwards depending on the number of cylinders treated.

I've always understood a full rebuild was £8-12k, I guess that could depend on the reason for the rebuild though?

Just read the ad, cracked cylinder head & bores were sorted apparently - could well be a good buy then with the usual precautions etc.

Saw this one when it was listed and the hartech stuff is a decent peice of mind, nothing else at that price ever has work like that done so to my eyes looks a bit under priced even taking into account the rust.

How much do we think the rust would be to sort? surely under £1k? It's even a manual too...... Only downside from where I'm standing is it's a cabriolet and that decal.....
