I've just bought some poverty Pork…
Discussion
Damn you, Povo Pork owners! This thread is dangerously inspiring stuff. 986 Boxsters seem to offer sensational value, so long as it doesn't go 'pop', which is just bad luck as far as I can tell.
I was thinking that my next motor needs to be an event after my oh so smooth, but ultimately uninspiring BMW 130i, so was thinking of M3 CSL (having owned a CS) for dynamics and soundtrack, or 996 Turbo for uber-grunzen. However, I think I'd be too chicken to take either of these on a track, so would be a waste, or perhaps too fast for the road (certainly the case for the turbo). The 986 would fit the bill perfectly.

Spent a couple of hours reading this thread from the start, astounded at the value of these!
I was looking and test-driving two years ago as a possibility for Elise replacement.
At the time I was looking for the newest, lowest mileage, MO30, black 986S that could be had for £11-12k. I really wanted a 987 but didn't have the £15-16k starting price.
I ended up getting yet another Elise derivative - VX220 turbo. Those haven't lost anywhere near the same value in the same time. Guessing it's down to rarity maybe? Obviously not down to the badge
Shows how things change... I can definitely see the appeal of a straight early silver 2.5, red seats now. Wouldn't have even featured on my searches before.

Damn you and your poverty pork thread. Now look what youve made me do!
Mrs C, already at her wits end with the 997 and cayenne turbo on the drive. They have now been joined be a 'poverty pork' 944 turbo.
Im gonna run the 'itll be better as a winter hack than the other two' sketch. lets hope she doesnt remember it from the Cayenne suprise purchase this time last year!

The temperature gauge sits at 80 and doesn't get any higher - good news , but over the last few weeks the warning light in the gauge has started flashing .I top up the coolant level up with 0.5 litres of water and the light goes out.
Can't see any fluids on the garage floor and the dip stick appears all ok.
Sorry for small photo.

As far as buying is concerned, are most of you viewing higher priced cars (than £5k) having a PPI and then knocking money off for anything that needs doing, whether privately or through a dealer?
I've posted a fair bit on this thread and my Boxster was my first Porsche. I bought it from a work from home dealer with a website. I had a short test drive and a poke around myself.I did get a 3 month warranty by a third party as part of the deal. In all honesty, I didn't even read what was or wasn't covered!Would I get most other cars I buy at this price inspected? No, so the zboxster was no different really. I bought my Range Rover the same way, except even more risky as it had no service history paperwork lol
I went to see a Poverty Box today at a non-Porsche dealer.
2.5 manual
85,000 miles.
Service history up until 2010
No bills
No knowledge of any previous work
Tired grey interior, a few scratches on the exterior
wheels needing refurb
cheap tyres
Hood ok
basic 3-month warranty
Asking £5,600.
Sound like a fair price? The dealer thought so.

The urge is still strong for a 986 S.
My 182 does what I wanted from it very well. I've also spent a fair bit on maintenance and it's a known quantity that shouldn't cost me much in the near future, so I don't really want to sell it. Plus, I'd get £3k maybe £3.5k tops!
But justifying a third car to SWMBO won't be easy! Perhaps buying one over winter will bring an even bigger bargain?
