Lovely looking motor there Dibs, you've scored the bargain of the year, well done.

Just where do you fit the towbar, so you can tow my new big covered bike trailer?!

Dibblecorse, that looks a cracking example - lovely colour combo too.

After reading your thread, and posting up in shock / delight about the prices of vintage Pork, I've been doing lots of reading...

IMS and RMS issues sound scary, and costly, but I think I am coming round to the idea of them being a possible, rather than a likely occurence. That the early cars are high(er) mileage and are likely to have shown their hand with these issues already is also some comfort. I think. smile

To be honest, the Boxster does fit my criteria better than the others on my shortlist - useable for longer trips away, plenty of boot space front and rear, convertible, rear wheel drive, designed as a sports car not a car with the roof chopped off. It'll be a second car also, so high mileage doesn't matter, nor do a few liveable-with-niggles.

I read a post somewhere on here where someone said when they owned their first Boxster, they hadn't even heard of the IMS/RMS issues. It occurred to me that sometimes being in possesstion of all the "facts" bad press can be detrimental to that old adage; Ignorance is Bliss.

Enjoy the car - love to hear how you get on with it.

Yup. It's a risk at the end of the day I guess, no more no less.

Apart from oil leakage, are there any tell tale signs of likely IMS failure that one could pick up on a test drive? Is it likely that a car with FSH would have any notes in the history regarding any RMS work etc or is that pot luck / asking a bit much? Guess it depends where it was serviced...

ETA - I really am used to stuff a bit quicker, so in my case the higher performance is important, although I appreciate that's not everyone's priority, to the extent that I got bored of my TVR 5litres 270bhp/tonne very quickly and now supercharged 390bhp/tonne.

Not trying to get into a pi55ing contest w/ you Jammy or hijack your thread Dibbles but, you should really really try a motorbike. Even something fairly tame in the bike world like a secondhand £2000 Suzuki SV650 has about 420hp/ton (minus rider of course). And Dibbles rides a 996 Ducati so knows something about "higher performance" id say wink

Enjoy shopping, have to say two weeks in and I'm really enjoying the car, outstanding value for money and apart from discovering the cd changer was broken it's proving to be a real joy and I'm getting no grief from my knee so that's a good sign as well.

It handles beautifully although was a tad twitchy through the lanes to work yesterday at -7 but that's forgivable.

Also fitted a new headunit with bluetooth and a usb port to make it easier to call mates and listen to tunes.

Speakers are rubbish though. Only dashboard ones, none in the doors......

That's it thus far.......

Good stuff. I saw a 2.5 today in Sittingbourne, but it was a bit of a dog - nearly bald tyres, buckled and kurbed wheels, paint was okay. Only £5k though, so possible to put right.

Good work Dibble, I too got tempted by Cheap Pork over Christmas. I noticed prices were at a point whereby the risks were outweighed by the purchase cost and went for it, having never owned one before. I spent a little more as some have suggested and went for a 3.2 although I wasn't planning on doing, i just happened to stumble across a good one.

All good so far touch wood. Put 2k miles on it in just over a month and beginning to wonder why anyone buys anything else at this price! I know I might regret saying that if something goes bang, but then again the costs of fixing my last nearly new ford were ridiculous - nothing is cheap to fix if it goes wring badly these days, unless you do it yourself, so I'm not sure the scaremongering is justified?

Enjoy it... I hope I do!

James, i begining to see what people mean, I bet the 3.2 is lovely, but for me the 2.5 id morethan enough (for now) ..... now need to work out whether later in the year I upgrade the car or the track bike !!!!!

Caboose, I've read numerous posts from you over a series of threads discussing the intricacies of Boxster ownership and wanted to express my thanks at the level of detail you've gone into. Fortunately, it was enough for me to convince Mrs. RatLad that she does NEED a Boxster and that it is sensible that she runs one alongside my Elise (two cars = 4 doors and 4 seats, right?).

I've always had a penchant for poverty pork, having owned these two previously;

However, I hope to be having a nosey round this very soon.

Moose, have to agree with ratLad, you have been a useful source of info ....

And you're right, without door speakers its nota great audio experience ...... 2 upgrades if I keep mine will be the roof and the door speakers, or maybe just change the car to alatter one already sorted in that department !!

Good feedback, had not noticed the speaker situation. The Elise has taught me that a loud exhaust and pathetic speakers do not a nice motorway experience make.

Hello gents...I have been considering a second car. This thread has picqued my interest although I must admit I had already started looking at Boxsters.

I'd looked at them in the past but never taken the step into Pork ownership (S2000 and Z4 / Z4M boxes got ticked instead).

Not looking to spend a fortune and the 2.5 or 2.7 I would not discount as it is more about enjoying the drive than outright straight line speed.

Can you turn the passenger airbag off (child seats) or was 'isofix and airbag switch' an option on these cars ever?

In the meantime if anyone knows of a nice Boxster near me (East Midlands) please feel free to point me in that direction. Also, are there any Porsche specialists near me that you'd reccommend?

Edit: What's the consensus on this one? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3533235.htm
