Went to see another Box.
It's brought me round a little after the green one - much, much prefer the black interior, and as a 98 2.5 it was more basic, and somehow just felt more me. Surprised I liked the colour too, presumed only speed yellow would look good, not pastel.
However, it's chintzed up with led lights, massive wheels and 4 different types (fail), and like an idiot, I didn't read the but about the gearbox - tiptronic fail.
Still, it's made me want one more. There's quite a few popped up on carandclassic in the past few days, some cheap 2.5s with some of the big jobs done.

Fair-do's tbh. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places but am struggling to find much in the way of tidy 3.6 996 C2's (coupe/manual) at the moment.
Try a C4. I was dead set on the "enthusiast C2 " until I drove a C4. They drive very similarly in most situations.And that's after passing up an aerokitted manual C2 privately with 60k and full porsche service history in may...
I been in the hinterland for 12 years foolishly selling a 993C2 in 2004 after a short period of ownership. Great car but scary having a large wedge of cash invested in a car. That and the wife wasn't that keen.
Hindsight and a divorce later I'm now looing to get back into ownership and have been looking for early 996 3.4's.
I'm reluctant to buy privately, I've always bought from dealers. maybe it's the reassurance of a warranty that helps. That, and buying the seller. There's a lot to be said about buying on history and condition rather than age and mileage.
Problem is I do procrastinate and by the time I've convinced myself to go for it, the car I might be interested in, is gone. I've always been a bit impulsive in the past and I'm now trying to use my head a bit more, though I'm finding I'm over thinking it.
However I think if I had any doubt about a car then I'd walk now, there are good ones out there, but there are also some overly tired examples.
I am determined to get back into the fold though.

All the cars I viewed had something wrong with them, but the difference is dealers will put them right. And there's greater security in the transaction.
I probably ended up overpaying for the car I bought, but it is the right car. I'd already done the deal when I remembered about the warranty! A £1000 claim limit won't go far tbh.
But the biggest laugh was the dealer who I asked about the warranty on his ok but unexceptional 3.6 C4.
"21 days" he replied. "that's what we give on all our cars"!!

Looks very tidy on the ad, although the pic with the roof up looks to show some decent evidence of significant wear although that may be lighting/shadows. That said, I'd be all over this if I was in the market for one, and I'm not normally a fan of red cars! Hopefully she goes to a good home

Thanks both of you, good to meet you cmoose. The fabric has very light wear only where it folds, as you say it's possibly a trick of the light/shadow.
Sold to a pher, flying down from Scotland tonight, should enjoy his drive back.
Edited as I see what you mean, that second photo makes the roof like quite bad in a diagonal stripe from the rear window (it isn't thankfully)!

This thread has the Best Title I've ever seen on a car forum and I have enjoyed reading it immensely since Day 1. Therefore it gives me great pleasure to be able to contribute with my newly acquired 2002 Poverty Pork Boxster S. 108,000 miles, spaztronic, pretty good all round, under five grand. And with my limited talent, it makes you feel like a pretty good driver around the corners.
