Struggling to get any interest selling my 99 2.5 with 113k, all the normal issues have been fixed and it's had a lot spent on it this year. It's up at £4,250, recon it's too much?
Your profile lists your location as Scotland - that will be a factor (for some reason Pork values have always seemed to be weaker in Scotland whenever I have trawled the classifieds over the years). If it is a tidy one with no issues and isn't Ocean Jade/Nephrite Green then I'd fully expect you to be getting bids in the region of £4k down in the South.
Thanks, I suppose we don't really have the weather for convertibles up here!

I've dropped the price to £4K now. Can't believe that Boxsters sell so cheaply, I had a 996 previously and this is much more fun!

ISTR an Indy near me in the Midlands had a 125k mile 2.5 up for sale at about £3750 about a year ago.

And a quick look on Auto trader shows 6 x 2.5s with less than 125k miles for just less than £4K inc 1 at £3500 and a Cat D at £3000.

There are also 5 X 2.7s at just les than £4500.

It's actually quite a competitive market, if you are prepared to travel a bit.

I think they'll get to a price point where some people will not be bothered to sell when they are worth nothing. At that price if you have the room you may as well keep it. People who have them as only cars will obviously need to move them on if they ever change their car.

Can I apply ? A 2005 987 2.7 for £8K ?
Half of what I paid for my '85 Chiffon white/Burgandy 911SC ragtop in 1996 !

Just like my first ever Porsche I bought back in 2006. Lovely car and massive bargain....5 speed I assume?! (which is a positive if you ask me!).

Sorry to butt in but I have a friend who has had a 2000 (X) 2.7 Boxster literally sat in their garden for years as an ornament. He's thinking it's time to mow the grass now and so it has to go. I've no idea what mechanical condition it's in although it is running and bodily in good condition. Is it worth a punt as an ongoing project or should I run a mile?

It's black with black extended leather. Manual transmission.

I figure on the road and in good condition it's worth £5k ish. I was thinking of going in at £2k.

Lol - I figured that's the response I was likely to get.

He's getting it to a local garage for a once over. I'll have a clearer idea of condition then.

If it's having an inspection/rectification list and a basic service then the price would be nearer double £2k at least unless there were any looming major disasters.

Well yhe first obvious question is why was it parked up and not used. What was the issue that led to that decision?

Any service history?

Better to get it to a Porshe Indy specialist than the local garage.

How brave would you need to be?!

Surely you'd be looking at tyres, brakes inc fluid, full service, suspension bushes, coolant change & much much more just as a starting point!

The guy works in the city and has just lost interest in it. There was nothing wrong with it when it was laid to rest - it was serviced by a Porsche main dealer up until then. He has a Cayenne turbo and this thing has simply been forgotten about.

I gathered it will need a whole host of bushes / discs / pads / oil / brake & steering fluids / filters / tyres etc..

I don't have much experience with Porsches but I am a competent home mechanic and I'm fully aware of the cost of parts.

Yeap, big risk, it's got to be Wheeler Dealers money to be worth the risk, but saying that I got £1k for mine and the engine was only fit to be a boat anchor. hehe

As a winter project, maybe.

Now, with the sun finally out, what would be more frustrating than finding part after part needing replaced or refurbished, while convertibles with their tops down drive past you every day.

It might also have rust issues that you cannot see.

Get it properly inspected by an Indy specialist and go in with your eyes open. But, as pointed out in here and elsewhere you can get a decent well cared for 2.7 for less than £4.5k.

Your friends may have been very well cared for up u till the point it was laid up but a lot can start to deteriorate with moisture etc in a year. Cars don't like being not used.

Even with an inspection it's £2k Max, because of the hidden risks, and that's if it comes out clean. If there's a list of jobs to do then less

Thanks for the positivity chaps,it drives like a champ (yeah 5 speed) but who knows what's round the corner. I plumped for a 2.7 mostly cause of the slit-the-wrists lot on here about 3.2's. I enter into this Porsche experience the same as I did in '96,with some trepidation although the odds are more in my favour this time. Here's my 1 owner '85 3.0 Sc (manual hood !) 58K miles bought from Porschecraft in '96. Forgot it had a whale tail ! (Call the style police)

Well the spending has started on mine.

Had a good nose underneath last week. brakes look OK from the front but rear face of discs is awful pitted/scored. Common apparently. Also got a knocking tie rod ball joint FL and torn tie rod ball joint boot FR.

However on the plus side - it's so gratifying/relieving to see that underneath everything is made from such good quality parts, nothing is rusty (Remember I have had MX-5s), all the bolts, fixtures, fittings etc look in comparatively fantastic condition. The arches once pressure washed are spotless, I was almost tempted to polish and wax them!

Full service kit, discs and Brembo sport pads, Brake fluid, and tie rods inner and outer.

I'll wait and see if I replace the inner tie rods when I have it apart in front of me - if not I'll return them and just do the clearly knackered outers. All from design911 who seem like a decent company, and I got a code out of a magazine for 5% off.

It has confirmed I was right to spend less - spending £6k instead of £4k would have simply got me a lower number on the dashboard, but a similar list of jobs to do anyway.

I think I've decided to screw the bodywork/paint. It looks ok from 6 feet away when polished up, nobody else cares, and I'll only be pissed off when I have it all painted and it gets the inevitable damage again. Especially if I'm going to track it.

Just going to make it awesome to drive driving

Even got papped at a car show when surrounded by rather more expensive metal!

2000 MY 986 2.7. Bought on a complete whim without a viewing (it was near Glasgow) and delivered Saturday. I shall report as soon as I've recovered from buyer's remorse and got it checked over by a decent specialist. Anyone want a VW Slowlo? I give good price hehe

ETA: Yes, I now own two MR cars with a combined 11 gears, 12 cylinders, 48 valves and about 500-550bhp. LOL.

Just been to see a 986 S which could be for sale. It's a 2003 with only 35000 miles on the clock. Car looks tidy but I'm not too pleased with the convertible roof as it's been sat outside all this time. How would you value a car like that?

A lot of these cars spend a lot of not all their time outside. If looked after properly the roof should be fine. If the roof condition is commensurate with the age and condition of the car then the value is 'normal'

Roof fitted is around £650 all in with a glass rear window so may be an improvement.
