That looks suspiciously cheap based on other adverts, unless I am missing something ?It's half the price you'd expect to be paying.
This looks nice.

See, to me I read this line or similar, "Full Service History / Refurbished engine 6k Miles ago.

"many repairs have been carried out" and I wouldn't look any further. It sounds like "money pit".
Perhaps it's a case of burying my head in the sand and hopeful that the ownership prospect will be of minimal ongoing costs. Unrealistic, but for an emotional purchase I don't want to hear anything negative.
In case it's not obvious, I'm not picking on that particular advert, just that 'fastidiously maintained' sounds better for a similar meaning. Maybe...

You can find positives in his wording if that is what you are looking for. I think most people these days find any slight negative and then think run away.

Excuse the grass, but here's the 4k boxster at its new ride height after a quick wash. You can just see the finish I got on the calipers. Fitted some obscenely expensive silicone wipers today too, hope it's worth it.
Snotty - looking good sir What's the drop? Looks similar to mine tbh and I wasn't aware it was lowered (but then I'm having issues getting info from seller).ATM said:
So what suspension have you gone for and how are you finding it now?
Thanks guys!I had priced up all sorts, and was all set to go with the new Koni FSD dampers (we use these at work on commercial vehicles, very clever digressive damping), with H&R springs.
In the end though I went with H&R Street performance coilovers, purely because they came up on ebay, brand new in box, at £450, about 40% of retail!
I am pleased though, and I have to say I would reccomend them when compared to other options at the same price new. Your looking at about £1000 for the Konis, £1200 Bilstein B6/MO30 nowadays, and the H&R's I got are in the middle on design911.
They have nice large diameter pistons, appear well sealed and include boots/bumpstops. They are a basic low-ish end coilover, no adjustment but then there no adjustment on Bilstein B4 or 6, or Koni FSD either.
They will go ridiculously low if you wanted them too, like full on stance job. Mines not far off all the way up and I reckon I've dropped about 25/30mm from std version springs.
As it stands, its similar/a fraction lower than a saggy M030 setup. I looked at plenty of those
No scraping. I was surprised, it could actually go lower but I'd rather keep the suspension travel - these do not have seperated height/preload platforms like high end stuff.
Anecdotally H&R damper internals are made by Koni although I can find no proof.
Its good, not incredible, but pretty good, firm, controlled. I was worried about how far they sit into the travel on the rear, but I haven't badly bottomed it out yet even on some good yumps.
They are not at the level of control/adjustment of a high end unit, even the GAZ or Meister from my old cars, but they are good, and in keeping with the car given its purchase price and intended use. I'm very happy.
I've also replaced both track rods, and I stripped and rebuilt/re-greased each top mount.
New droplinks were fitted all round as they have to be 'destructively' removed...
I stripped and refurbed the calipers, which are now bright silver, along with silver brembo discs and HP2000 pads.
Aesthetically its a little rough (not terrible), but it drives great, I'm really enjoying it as a daily driver. the 2.7 is more than fast enough for the roads most travelled, only the rather long 2nd and 3rd gear are slightly miffing me.
I have a friend whos a VAG specialist (!), I reckon we could build an Audi gearbox with custom ratios cheaply by picking bits out of passats/A4's etc...

SR, thanks for the above. Could you put a link to the ebay ad so those less mechanically inclined know what to look out for. I'm looking for some cheap aftermarket suspension for my '04 Boxster S.
Many thanks
You don't have to go aftermarket. The M030 is still a good kit and still reasonable on price. The fresh dampers will make the most noticeable difference. The Koni FSDs are available for sub £600 now whereas just a couple of months ago they were over £800. H&R -10mm springs are les last than £150. Many thanks

Me either - submitting the papers this week finally (took ages to compile). I have consulted a good friend and colleague who is a world class litigator as it happens - I could not afford his advice otherwise! Might have to get Lord Blackadder himself on deck too Just want to get on with making my overdue contribution to this thread. At least I'm not missing out on much in terms of driving weather!
I had a 51 plate 2.7 in met black with black leather on 17" rims that were considered big then (my 1st Porsche) had it for 6 years from new & loved it. I saw one the other day just like it & it was mint condition it made me wish I still had mine. There not that old but look dated in an almost classic sort of way, small, light weight & simple. Enjoy.

You either buy:
- A full MO30 kit - which includes dampers made by Bilstein to Porsche spec/rates. The full kit also includes the matched springs and ARB's of course.
- Or you go it alone and buy 'aftermarket' Bilsteins which are labelled as B4 (standard), B6 (sport, mild upgrade, probably nearest to MO30), B8 (sport, adjustable etc),
and then team up with springs and other components of your choice.
Or swap Bilstein for Koni, Gaz, etc etc...
Point being - MO30 used to be a bargain at well under a £1000 and a safe bet of getting a well matched setup.
At current prices, not so much now.
I would go Koni & H&R springs.
