This is one of the things that is worrying me about taking the Mrs's Pork for it's 1st service in our ownership. I've just took my TVR for a service/MOT and my man who knows the car very well services it according to the miles I've done and not by the letter of the 'offical service schedule' the last service/MOT came in at under £230 and even with an advise with regard to the valve stem seals needing work, taking into account my mileage and the age/technology of the car a bit thicker oil would see the problem being put off for a year or 2. This is the kind of service I want from a Pork Indy but I'm getting the impression they don't use a massive ammount of common sense on these 'Poverty Porks' I was planning on using the main dealer due to there current offer and I imagine I'm going to get a comedy list adding up to more than the value of the car from them. But on a happier note..... I borrowed the car last night for a run out to a local classic/sports car meeting and the Boxster is really quite a nice place to spend some time. It's 'only' the 2.7 so never going to deliver the thrils of my TVR but in the real world it's quite quick, handles a little less scary than the TVR but still fun and although I'd prefer a little more noise it even sounds good when 'pushing on'

Just booked my track rod ends in to be done at Autostrasse, roughly 200 quid including labour which is 60 quid less than quoted at JM in Bournemouth .
Also asked them to take a look at exhaust.

I asked OPC Tonbridge the other week if I can bring my own oil & they said yes. So I'll be buying my oil from Smith & Allen & taking it with me!

Just booked the Poverty Pork in for a Major at my OPC. Going to take along my own oil which they are ok with, currently thinking Fuchs Titen Supersyn at £50 for 10 litres. This brings the major service alone down to £303+oil so as long as they don't come up with a shopping list as long as my arm of 'recommended repairs' the poverty running costs can continue.

Sounds good - I just paid 300 for a minor at and indy !!! We ought to start a Boxster poverty spec picture thread

New exhaust is on and sounds fantastic! Pics to follow. £130 lucky deal and £130 to fit including new clamps. Watching the job the hardest part was removing the old exhaust. A useful weight saving too and obviously it is stainless and looks nice and shiny.
You can notice it at idleonly if you knew the car. On the overrun you get a couple of pops and crackles, not too loud or intrusive. When you put your foot down and work it through the revs it sounds great. Its probably the sun and bum dyno at work but it feels keener to rev. At light throttle you can suppress the noise but guesstimate from about 1/4 depressed and onwards from 2.2k to 3k ish revs there is a little 'boom'. Through the revs you get a much more throaty or rorty sound and it sounds less mechanical and anodyne than it did before.
I did see a couple of other Boxsters on the drive home and gave a few helpful blips :-)

Well I took my car to autostrasse for a second opinion on this 2500 estimate from JMG in Bournemouth. Autostrasse looked over the car, changed the track rod ends, changed a hose on the power steering and changed some rusty clamps on the exhaust. Bar that everything else is fine !!!!! It pays to get a second opinion !!! 270.15 quid

I'm currently toying with the idea of a 3.2s for the summer so have been watching the thread with interest. When browsing the classifieds tonight I came across this: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3930305.htmI don't know the car or seller, but for £3250 ono it's certainly a great example of how little the older cars go for nowadays and potentially a bargain, IMHO.

Very comparable with Z3 prices now then, maybe Z4 too. What are Porsche prices like compared to BMW for spares? I guess Eurocarparts evens out the playing field quite a bit..
