Well played.

Was off line most of yesterday and so didn't get a chance to see this.

1. The Boxster chop - only required on cold days. Otherwise just watch through the rear view and you'll see if you are going to need it. Over 10degC though and you'll never need to IME, although would might want to.

2. Rads and front wishbones - if one goes and you can afford to do the other at the same time as it will follow as sure as night does day.

3. If you have one without the lower console praise the lord. With my size it made it so much nicer to be able to 'spread' my legs a bit more. Added to which it makes entering via the passenger door when some comedy fkwit has parked within a mm of the drivers side much easier. I also preferred the look, but that's me.

4. Have you got A/c? if so it will demist very quickly.

5. Don't bother with a glass rear window unless it already has one - for reasons stated by others.

6. In winter ALWAYS carry an old credit card with you. If the window seal freezes to the window the only way to free it without hair driers and the like is to use one of these. The window will bend enough to allow you to open and close it without 'dropping' but if you have an ounce of mechanical sympathy it hurts and the closing part requires opening the roof a little if you are inside the car and the worries that brings with the PAX door and frozen rear screen.

7. Mine had 17"s and I can only imagine how puny 16" would look. Be careful with the front springs as some owners have cut these to make the front look lower and meaner - MOT failure if spotted.

8. RMS - get a new one with every clutch change unless you see a pool of black under the car one day. A drip is nothing (they all do that sir), a drizzle is a problem.

9. IMS - forget about it, if it is going to happen it will and nothing any of us says will influence it.

10. At some point you most likely be blanked by some feckwit in a V reg 996C2 with 11billion miles who deems your car beneath them and another day you'll end up talking to the owner of a GT2RS all night long about your mutual love of cars as he compares his to the 599GTO he got last week. Get over it and the 1001 cleaver sodds who will tell you that it is a hairdressers car, is too slow. They bug you but worse is the one who says nothing but talks behind your back about how flash you are in your £20k sports car. Seriously I lost count for the number of times I was called a flash or similar by people driving cars that were worth 2,3 and 4 times mine in the trade.
excellent reply, thanks, and to comment on a few ....

Yes it has AC smile No idea about the lower console. not seen the car yet, see it tomorrow when i collect it, it does have the 17's, in regards the other bits, all good info and its been well checked over so hoping all will be ok ...

Will get some pics up when i finally get my hands on the car ....

The centre console delete is pretty simple if you wanted to go down that route later. Just involves removing the said parts and fitting a few simple blanking panels and possibly relocating a couple of switches (readily available as a kit). Let me know if you want details when you get the car. It will more than likely still have the console in place as I don't think many owners actually do this.

Thought of another one as well. Mine would blow the d/s seat fuse at any opportunity - better a fuse than a motor and I suspect it was due to the fact I would always be putting the back as far back as it would go against the bulkhead to get my legs in. Always carried 2 or 3 spares with me.

yes

If you listen carefuly you can hear the fuses pop hehe

It's a green one (30?) and you never know if it will or wont go when moving it. I've had them last months with the Mrs and I jumping in and out of the drivers seat and then blown 2 in a day just altering it a bit on a long trip.

OK, I've collected Bluebell, and here she is ......... very enjoyable drive in via the local B roads today to the office, seems very composed and on the 17's not at all crashy ..... so far me likes, now just need to see if the clutch aggravates my knee or whether I am back into a manual comfortably ....

Very smart. Ocean Blue, I believe.

Now then, for your first mod., get a decent lenght of dental floss and use a sawing action to remove the Boxster emblem from the boot lid. A bit of WD40 or petrol etc will encourage any residual adhesive to come off. A quick polish and a bit of wax later the rear end will look even more discrete!

Looks very honest from those photos.

Not a colour scheeme of choice but certianly not one that causes offence to the eyes.

I'd certainly keep the orange lights, with that colour paint the clear ones just don't seem to look right IMO.

Mogul, I quite like it in black, its almost invisible against the blue pain, would have removed it if it had been silver / chrome ....

Rude-Boy, no plans to make any changes, I like her as she is, and she is a trial car as a manual before I decide long term whether I go down the auto route due to knee troubles ....

Looking good. I bought a similar car.

Missing door speakers are a pain, as it would be difficult to get speaker cables into the doors, and you would need some work on the door panels. I am about to fit 6x9's behind the seats and maybe a 10" sub in the passenger footwell.

Just did the on board computer hack, so I now have a nice on board computer for the cost of £30... Call it a fun project car :-)

Nice one. Looks like a decent buy.

My 'beef' with Porsche, and the 2.5 Boxster is simply that a 2 seater roadster, with a flat 6 engine of 2.5 litres capacity with Porsche heritage could, and should, have been faster. That's all.

I'm sure it's still a very good car, especially at the money they're at nowadays.

^^^^

Can't argue with that.

There are faster ones, but then it's more money to buy and to put right and maintain.

I'd have a well sorted genuine 2.5 over an unknown 3.2 any day, one of the reasons I didn't swap mine for a 3.2 a couple of years after I had bought it when one was offered to me for a very attractive price to change (and that the 3.2 was in RFG vomitsmile )

UK, centre console delete details would be nice as currently I'm bashing the outside of my left shin against it, no switches in mine just 6 CD slots and dont need those ......

Looked nice.

Mine was Arctic Silver/Boxster tan and I have to say I still see that as the 'classic' Boxster colours.

I think that they are a very underrated car, to the point where at these prices I'm begingin to wonder if I really should be looking at Polos and Seats for my shopping trolley or if there is a case for giving an old Boxster its last home. Then again I just don't think that I could throw an old rug full of hedge clippings into the boot of a Boxster with as little sympathy as an old hatch, negating the point a little...

My favourite was turning up at the gargae and producing a 13kg Patio Gas cylinder from the front boot. It can also carry a full ENG camera kit with batteries, media and a set of proper sticks, and leave more than enough room for overnight kit for two.

Trips to Ikea were a laugh - people would watch us pack it up shaking heads and saying things like "Never fit". Not once did we buy more than we could fit hehe

The amount of stuff you can get in that gap on to of the engine behind the seats was unreal.

IMO there is nothing more practical as a 2 seat soft top than a 1998/99 2.5 before they started to fill the front boot with plastic!

Enjoy it.

I'm selling my 986 S at the moment as I'm moving to New York, but I'm going to miss it - its such a well thought out, thoroughly satisfying car.
