Looks great! Would you mind telling us some details and price? I'm trying to get a feel for what cars are actually selling for (vs advertised prices).
Cheers
Steve
Hi Steve, I paid £8750 it was advertised at £9995 50,000 0n the clock loads of history and the right spec for me, Zenith Blue, black leather, with the hardback sports seats, new hood with glass screen, climate, 18 inch turbo wheels, CDr22, I had a silver Boxster about 10 years ago so didn’t want silver again, I had a good look around and the price was a little high but have a warranty the garage also replaced the battery alternator and sorted some other little thing.Cheers

Thanks for the info. That sounds like a decent deal. Certainly a good reduction from the sticker price. My concern is that unless I buy from a Porsche specialist (and they don't seem to have anything down at my budget) I basically don't trust any dealer and would need a full inspection by a specialist. And the logistics of getting that in place can be right faff...

The dealer that I bought from call themselves a Porsche specialist but can’t any garage/dealer claim to be an independent specialist, buying any used car always has its risks, purchasing from a dealer at least gives you some statutory rights. My car has had four previous owners starting life at OPC Cardiff, the last chap lived in Romford but travelled to have the car serviced at the dealer I bought from they have been looking after the car the last three years, he Part exchanged for another boxster. I checked all the paperwork old service receipts ect the car had a new clutch, Rear main oil seal, and Ims seal in 2008 can’t see that the bearing has been changed, same old chance it could go bang.

That all sounds good. If I could find one with that sort of provenance I'd be very pleased!I checked all the paperwork old service receipts ect the car had a new clutch, Rear main oil seal, and Ims seal in 2008 can’t see that the bearing has been changed, same old chance it could go bang.

Good thread...
I'm currently hunting for a Boxster S with a £6-7k budget. It's really tricky working out which ones are good 'uns. I really want a car that comes with a pile of invoices to demonstrate all the work that's been done (as my cars always) have, but I'm astonished how unusual this seems to be. FSH means different things to different people it seems...

I'll probably be selling my 2000 Boxster S soon - it was supposed to be a stop gap but I'm having trouble parting with it. Approx 4k spent in the last yr or so (air con rads, control arms, RMS, IMS, clutch, 4 disks and pads, wheel refurb etc etc), full history. Should certainly not be costing much - one of the reasons I don't want to part with it, even for a 911t. stevo6 said:

Blimey, I've come across alot of Porsche specialists, and the difference between alot of them (but not all) and dealers of less 'specialised' motors is that their houses are bigger. NOT, that either their morals or their cars for sale, are any better. My concern is that unless I buy from a Porsche specialist (and they don't seem to have anything down at my budget) I basically don't trust any dealer and would need a full inspection by a specialist. Again, thats some, not all. Some are really really good, others are really really bad.

That's all good stuff - thanks. And I probably agree with you in principal - but the engine mechanics on these cars is a bit unusual and much harder for a novice to inspect. Example: I've been eyeing something in a random dealer; rang the indy who I know serviced it earlier this year to ask if he knew the car - and he did. He remembered being asked to diagnose "whirring" from the engine. They had a good look and worked out it was engine related - not ancillary, bit did no further work. And now the car is for sale. Now - this is speculation, and the issue may have been resolved by another garage - but I bet not... If I was looking at that car I would have no idea, whereas a good inspection would/should identify risks like this.I'm near Reading - and will certainly be looking in an area that covers your "patch" - so thanks that's a very kind offer which I will keep in mind.

I guess my hope is that they a) understand the cars and issues, and b) have a reputation to maintain that's important in the Porsche "community"Again, thats some, not all. Some are really really good, others are really really bad.

Plus all the car-plebs think you're a total player! You can pick a Boxster up for £4k, but people think they're some kind of supercar because if the badge! Already received a lot of disapproval from certain friends
Yes that's true . I could get a nice BMW 740 in the drive for £800, and people would think I was minted as they drive past in their £25k Fords...Very tempted to buy a slice of poverty pork myself. 2.5 Boxster with 130k on the clock, planning to maintain it myself but what is a realistic figure per annum in spare bits? Hartech do all the replacement suspension bits which seem good value, if they are needed. Otherwise the car reads to be OK, 2 owners, a lady for 10 years who had it from new. Got long MOT and plenty of tax, 4 good tyres, just needs a new hood window to be sewn in.
Yay or nay?
