Bargaining tool.

Rvebnifnit doesn't slip, I bet the pedal will be awfully heavy. A new clutch needn't be that expensive.

Well I saw the car this morning and was shocked at the condition - touch wood but it was in phenomenal shape for the age/mileage, so is now sitting in my driveway!

Motor felt as strong as any 2.5 I've driven and the clutch wasn't that heavy.. & has a complete service history and a folder full of every receipt since 2009 totaling 12.5k!

Hopefully a well looked after car (which I still cannot believe you can buy for a little over 3k!!)

Well done! I don't know if you're on GSF's mailing list, which is advertising 40% off clutches today - CLUTCH40 is the code. Means that a Sachs kit for a 986 2.5 is £211, which might be worth getting.

So, an update regarding my very own poverty Pork

You may remember I'd left a deposit on a zenith blue example early last week, the day before I went to Portugal. Anyway, after a week of jumping out of planes and being snapped in a few decent pics such as below...

...I landed back in blighty where it was grey, miserable and pissing it down, and I was wondering why I came back.

Yesterday, it was also grey, miserable and pissing it down. Not the best conditions for the 150 mile journey to bring this home:

Suzi the slut (7 previous owners). 113k, full Porsche dealership / specialist history with over £11k of invoices. Was after a zenith blue with factory litronics. For £3.8k I'm happy. Immediate to dos are front brake pads and RARB bushes. A few other niggly bits such as the clutch and aircon can wait till next year.

Really well specced from new:

L3AX Exterior Colour - Zenith Blue Metallic
F1 "Metropole" Blue leather over dark grey
XJB Rear Section Of Center Console In Arctic Silver
XLA Boxster Tail Pipe
X70 Door Entry Guards In Stainless Steel With Logo
X71 Aluminum-Colored Instrument Dials
X97 Gear Lever Knob in Aluminium/Leather
X98 Handbrake Lever in Aluminium/Leather
139. Heated Seat (left)
197. Higher Amperage Battery
236. 18" Alloy Wheels
288. Headlight Washers
340. Heated Seat (Right)
375. Sport Seat, Backrest Shell, Left
376. Sport Seat, Backrest Shell, Right
413. 18-inch Turbo Look Wheels
436. 3-Spoke Steering Wheel
441. Prepared for Radio
446. Wheel Caps with Coloured Crest
490. Sound System "ASK"
502. Valmet Production (Finland, Uusikaupunki Built)
551. Wind Deflector & Storage Shelf over Engine
567. Graduated green tint upper part of windshield
571. Carbon Filter for Passenger Compartment
573. Air Conditioning
584. Storage Box above Engine
601. Litronic Xenon Headlights
659. On-Board Computer
659. Front Fog Lights (1979)
689. Preparation for CD Changer
699. CD Radio "Porsche MDR 32"
981. Leather Equipment without Seat Covers
983. Seat Covers Front and Rear Leather

Although, I did notice a rattling coming from the rear end today - hopefully not the IMSB rolleyes

Anyway, looking forward to my 70 mile round trip to work tomorrow smile

Mmmm... Cat D.

For that sort of money, I'd look at this:
http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Went and test drove it. Owned by a well heeled Surrey lady who's had it for 12 years. FSH (mainly OPC and Parr).

Noisy engine mount would be my only immediate to-do thing.

Needs AC condensers, headlamp washers don't work and seats could do with a re-trim / refurb. Would have bought it if I hadn't got the one I posted above.

More likely to be an exhaust heat shield!

Fixed up all the heatshields on the back of mine this weekend - stripped off and refitted with repair washers, spire clips and No.12 Acme bolts.

Rock solid now - sounds totally different. Well worth checking for older boxster owners - give them a wiggle/tap with a hammer to find any looseness.

That Boxster looks great, it has aged well!

I think about selling my 2.5 every day especially after 10 years of ownership it is probably time to change, but every time I get it out of the garage I remember why I bought it and I could never replace it so it stays a bit longer.

Maybe I am hoping early Boxsters will go up in value, they are still cheap IMO, a similar age MR2 is more money and I would prefer the Boxster every time.

Could one of the veteran members kindly confirm correct operation of the fuel gauge? From full, mine seems to start going down rather quickly. Brimmed the tank to two clicks yesterday and have barely done 40 miles and allegedly used over 1/8 of a tank.

When I did refill, I was at just under 3/4 of a tank and it took a little over 47 litres (which seems plausible, 47/.75 = just over 62 litres, which is tank capacity). Seem to be averaging just under 26 mpg.

This may well be how it is supposed to work, just checking. On my Polo, I can usually get 80 - 100 miles from full before the needle moves.

My 2002 definitely drops the needle off full rather quickly at the start, then slows down through the middle of the range. Must be the shape of the tank.

And then if you let it drop down till the light comes on, when you fill up and restart, it doesn't go back up till the next day... rolleyes

My 986 probably never seen full a tank since I've owned biggrin put 25 GBP worth of V power and do a 55 miles round trip(110 total) at least twice a week. Depends on traffic of course, usage changes a bit...
